Mercury Tennis Roundup (Oct. 11): Methacton, Spring-Ford advance in District 1 tournament

The Methacton and Spring-Ford girls tennis teams moved on to the quarterfinals of the District 1 Class 3A team tournament Monday.

Third-seeded Spring-Ford took down 14th-seeded Mount St. Joseph, 5-0, in first round action as Mia Matriccino, Isabel Mejia and Cady Krause all one decisively in singles matches and the teams of Evelyn Mejia/Alexis Luo and Lana Hang/Chloe Moore picked up doubles wins.

The Rams face sixth-seeded Wissahickon, a 5-0 winner over 11th-seeded Strath Haven, on Tuesday in the quarterfinals. 

Seventh-seeded Methacton earned a 4-1 victory over 10th-seeded Radnor on Monday. Alice Lian, Hana Nouaime and Anika Suresh won in singles, and Dru O’Brien/Angela Lian earned a victory in second doubles.

The Warriors travel to second-seeded Conestoga on Tuesday after the Pioneers took down 15th-seeded Perkiomen Valley, 5-0.

Singles: Mia Matriccino (SF) def. Dylan Conroy 6-0, 6-1; Isabel Mejia (SF) def. Elizabeth Murray 6-2, 6-0; Cady Krause (SF) def. Megan Martin 6-1, 6-4.

Doubles: Evelyn Mejia/Alexis Luo (SF) def. Shanele Tamulevicius/Ellie Devine 6-2, 6-0; Lana Hang/Chloe Moore (SF) def. Ellina Meitner/Sarah Fedders 6-0, 6-2.

Methacton 4, Radnor 1

Singles: Alice Liang (Me) def. Leona Ciarrocchi 6-1, 6-3; Hana Nouaime (Me) def. Mia Xie 6-3, 6-3; Anika Suresh (Me) def. Sophie Carter 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

Doubles: Ellen Hederick/Emma Fox (Ra) def. Lauren Montgomery/Irene Biju 0-6, 6-3, 7-5; Dru O’Brien/Angela Lian (Me) def. Amelia Hilbert/Amelia Reinholt 6-0, 5-7, 6-2.
