Mercury Roundup (Oct. 11): Boyertown’s Rinehimer, Upper Merion’s Hutchinson have milestone nights

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Boyertown 3, Fleetwood 1

Highlights: Boyertown senior Grace Rinehimer recorded her 1,000th career assist in the Bears’ non-league win Monday over Fleetwood.

Rinehimer recorded 33 assists and three digs in the four-set victory (25-17, 25-22, 23-25, 27-25).

Adrianna Derstine (23 kills, 3 aces, 7 digs), Allison Pioli (11 kills, 3 aces, 8 digs), Emma Smith (20 digs, 4 aces) and Kyra Neiswender (5 digs, 5 aces) were other standouts for the Bears.

 

Upper Merion 3, Methacton 1

Highlights: The Vikings won Monday’s PAC Crossover match in four sets (25-18, 20-25, 25-20, 25-16) over the Warriors.

Senior Vanessa Hutchinson (30 digs, five assists, three aces, two kills) recorded her 1,000th career dig in the first set. Fellow senior Camryn Frebowitz made three blocks.

Sophia Schweikert (25 kills, 17 digs), Caitlyn Daywalt (30 assists, 12 digs) also had big days Julia Giammarco (12 digs), while Sydney Bright had a career-high 7 kills.

 

Perkiomen Valley 3, Owen J. Roberts 1

Highlights: The Vikings won Monday’s PAC Crossover contest in four sets (25-15, 19-25, 25-12, 25-19).

Sam Corey (7 kills, 7 blocks), Olivia Wusinich (22 assists, 7 digs, 2 aces), Lilah Maus (9 kills) and Cami Leyes (11 digs) were statistical standouts for the Vikings.

For OJR, Ellie Kalbach (3 aces, 1 kill, 12 assists, 1 block assist), Katie Arcara (11 kills, 2 solo blocks, 1 block assist), Bridget Kowalski (1 ace, 2 kills, 7 digs), Meghan Touhey (3 aces, 7 kills, 1 assist, 4 digs) and Sarah Mominey (14 assists, 3 digs) had big days.

Pope John Paul II 3, Spring-Ford 1

Highlights: The Golden Panthers took down the Rams in four sets (27-29, 25-17, 26-24, 25-10) in PAC Crossover action on Monday.

Senior Ally Plitnick (36 assists), junior Sara Fritzinger (14 kills), freshman Lauren Angelucci (10 kills), senior Faith Hudon (27 digs) and senior Camryn Elsner (23 digs) were standouts for the Rams.

Perkiomen School wins twice

Highlights: Perkiomen School made a sweep of weekend matches against non-league opponents. The Panthers edged Valley Forge Baptist Friday, 3-2, and George School Saturday, 3-1.

Set scores against VF Baptist were 24-26, 25-15, 25-13, 25-27 and 15-7. Against George, set scores were 21-25, 25-15, 25-18 and 25-18.

FIELD HOCKEY

Spring-Ford 7, Phoenixville 0

Highlights: Maddie Friend scored twice in the fourth quarter to key the Rams’ PAC divisional crossover win over the Phantoms.

Lex Collins and Nina Scott each chipped in with goals and assists for Spring-Ford.

Phoenixville 0 0 – 0

Goals: SF – Nina Friend 2, Lexi Collins 1, Nina Scott 1, Emma Friend 1, Emma Reinert 1.

Methacton 12, Norristown 0

Highlights: Carmela Maro headed an otherwise balanced, potent offense for the Warriors as they romped over the Eagles in their PAC Liberty Division game.

Maro had a hat trick and one assist for Methacton, which had 12 other players contribute either goals or assists. Renee Blake (one assist) and Elena Snodgrass each had two-goal outings.

Highlights: Lu O’Neill had the game’s lone goal, lifting the Falcons over Sun Valley in their non-league pairing.

MacKenzie Johnson and Tonya Stone shared Pottsgrove’s goaltending duties, sharing the clean sheet.

Highlights: Despite Logan Hyduke’s nine-save goaltending, the Rams dropped Monday’s non-league contest in overtime when Nathan Leisure found the back of the net two minutes into the second overtime.
