Delco Roundup: Wood leads Garnet Valley in 5-setter with Villa Maria

Garnet Valley needed every one of Maddie Wood’s 49 assists in a 3-2 victory over Villa Maria Saturday.

Each set was determined by three points or fewer. The Jags took a 2-0 lead with scores of 25-22 and 27-25 and Villa won the third and fourth sets by 26-24 scores. GV sealed its 12th win of the season with an 18-16 victory in the fifth set.

Kelly St. Germain posted 15 kills and three blocks for the Jags. Klaira Zakarian paired 14 kills with two blocks, while Katie Dugery and Sara Weins combined for 13 blocks. Rachel Soklasky, Maddie Snelgrove and Leah Ellis excelled on defense.

Field Hockey

Abbie Venit, Grace Lord and Ava DiGuglielmo registered two goals each to lift Ridley past Interboro, 7-1.

Krista Geibler also tallied for the Green Raiders.

For the Bucs, Miranda Neill scored on an assist by Gianna Christopher. Goalie Mackena Harley finished with nine saves.

In other nonleague action:

Garnet Valley 8, Mount St. Joseph 0 >> Alyssa Smith dominated with four goals. Theresa Ricci (one goal, two assists) and Hannah Long (one goal) controlled the midfield as the Jags boosted their overall record to 12-1.

Radnor 2, Archbishop Carroll 0 >> The Raptors scored both goals in the first half and never looked back. Reilly McMeniman recorded nine saves in the cage for the Patriots.

Girls Soccer

Bensalem’s Lexi Cahill scored on a PK at the 60th minute as the Owls edged Marple Newtown, 1-0.

Trinity Hood finished with 12 saves in net for the Tigers.

Girls Tennis

Conestoga’s Bella Chen and Ananya Krishnan won the Central League doubles title with a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Radnor’s Leina Ciarrocchi and Mia Xie.

Harriton’s Josephine Kwok and Allison Liao took third place with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over teammates Rachel Wang and Kelly Tong.

Boys Soccer

Cody Dill scored in the second half of Delco Christian School’s 2-1 loss to Perkiomen Valley

Perk Valley held a 2-0 lead by the seventh minute. DC goalie Michal Dill made two saves.
