Delco Roundup: Kerr’s second straight shutout powers Interboro

Sarah Kerr posted her second straight shutout, with the help of a strong effort from the defense, to lead Interboro to a 3-0 Del Val League girls soccer victory over Chichester Friday.

Becca Roberts paced the offense with two goals. Maryanna Nagle had the other goal for the Bucs.

In nonleague action:

Episcopal Academy 4, Radnor 0 >> The freshman shined for the Churchwomen. All four goals were scored by ninth-graders.

Freshman Quinn Whitaker tallied twice and added one assist. Whitaker scored the first and last goal and fed freshman Avery Le to give the Churchwomen a 2-0 lead. Freshman Maya Bright made it 3-0 at halftime. Junior goalie Maya Naiomili posted her fifth shutout in six games for EA (6-0 overall, 1-0 Inter-Ac).

In late Central League action on Thursday:

Marple Newtown 1, Garnet Valley 0 >> Olivia DiValerio scored on a penalty kick in the 65th minute to lift the Tigers over the Jaguars. Goalie Trinity Hood made 11 saves including one on a penalty kick in the 74th minute to record the shutout.

Field Hockey

Sienna Golden tallied twice in the first half to lead Archbishop Carroll to a 5-0 victory over Bonner-Prendergast in the Catholic League.

Cate McConaghy had the other goal that staked the Patriots (6-3, 3-0) to a 3-0 halftime lead. Laura Wineberga nd Lydia Malone closed out the scoring in the second half. Reilly McMeniman made five saves to post the shutout.

Leah Ewing made 13 saves in goal for the Pandas.

Girls Volleyball

Emily Liberio and Lauren Capozzoli set the tone on offense and Karlie Cecchini and Jackie Borcky showed the way on defense to pace Ridley to a 3-0 Central League victory over Harriton.

Liberion dished out 14 assists and Cappozzoli added 10 helpers. That ball moment allowed Kyla Carney to post seven kills. Cecchini recorded 15 digs and Borcky had eight blocks to pace the Raiders to the 25-18, 25-20, 25-23 victory.

In nonleague action:

Sacred Heart 3, Haverford 0 >> Emily McKenna posted 13 kills, nine digs and three aces for the Lions.

Elizabeth Cuskey added seven aces, five kills, three assists and one block in the 25-22, 25-21, 25-18 triumph. Annie Corcorcan pitched in with 23 assists and six kills.

Agnes Irwin 3, George School 0 >> Seniors Golda Mehl and Jenna Zwilling led the way in the 25-21, 25-12, 25-15 victory.

Hehl pounded seven kills and Zwilling dished out 10 assists. Freshman Heidi Reller recorded 11 service aces.

Girls Tennis

Baldwin swept two matches at singles and two at doubles in straight sets to defeat Notre Dame, 6-1. Ellen Shank and Colleen Murtaugh pulled out a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 triumph at fourth doubles for ND’s lone win.


Pat Brees carded a 7-over par 42 at Rock Manor Golf Club but it wasn’t enough as Sun Valley dropped a 191-230 decision to Kennett. Josh Albrect shot 45 and Bernie Seasock 46 for the Vanguards.

Boys Water Polo

Jack LaRocca totaled seven goals as The Haverford School topped Lawrenceville (17-10) and Greenwich CD (13-9) in the first day of the Beast of the East Tournament.

LaRocca scored four goals and had one assist in the win over Lawrenceville and three goals against Greenwich. Freshman Ben McDade totaled five goals and three assists. Bram Schork also finished the day with five goals. Luka Sekulic finished with three goals and four assists.
