Lower Merion football team rolls to victory in season opener

The Lower Merion High School football squad defeated Pottstown, 48-25, in its season opener Aug. 27. The Aces established their offense early, rolling to a 42-19 halftime lead.
“Our offensive line did a great job,” said Lower Merion head coach Joe Augustine.
“They came out and established the line of scrimmage. James Dougherty (at right guard) and Xavier Archawski (at left tackle) did a great job leading the way. Pottstown had a big defensive line, a couple of 300-pounders, and our linemen did a good job against them.”
Lower Merion quarterback Jack Lledo threw for 216 yards and four touchdown passes, including a pair of long scoring strikes to Lance Kim in the first quarter.
“Jack did a great job at quarterback,” said Augustine.
Lower Merion running back Jay Zheng rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown, and Sam Zheng chipped in with an 80-yard kickoff return for a TD.
On defense, outside linebacker Charlie Coyle led the way with 10 solo tackles, some of them for losses.
“Charlie had a great day, he was flying around out there, having fun and playing good football,” said Augustine. “Other guys on defense fed off his energy. The heat was excessive but Charlie never wanted to come out of the game. Our entire defense played well.”
