PIAA Class A baseball: Sluggish first inning dooms Delco Christian

Delco Christian committed six errors and dug itself a four-run hole in the first inning in its PIAA Class A tournament opener Monday.

The Knights couldn’t get the bats going and failed to get out of their own way defensively in a 12-1 setback to District 3 runner-up Hailfax at Coatesville High School.

Blake Tanis spoiled the shutout bid with an RBI groundout in the fifth inning, knocking home Jeremiah Chow, who had the walk-off hit in a 7-6 win over Calvary Christian for the District 1 Class A title last month.

Josh Freiling had a double, and Josh Dell’Arciprete and Connor Crowe each singled for the Knights. Dell’Arciprete suffered the loss after allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on 10 hits in four innings.

Hailfax pitchers Judah Miller and Eli Tyrrell held the Knights to three hits over five innings.
