Reporter/Times Herald Baseball Roundup: Plymouth Whitemarsh rallies past Upper Moreland to stay undefeated

Plymouth Whitemarsh 8, Upper Moreland 4 >> Plymouth Whitemarsh used a late rally to kept its prefect record intact Friday, scoring six times in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a 4-2 deficit and beat Upper Moreland in the SOL crossover game.

Luke Caucci was 3-for-4 with two doubles while Tom Yanoshik also hit a pair of doubles, putting the Colonials (12-0, 5-0 SOL Liberty) ahead for good with his two-RBI double in the sixth that made it 5-4

Joe Jaconski collected two RBIs while Luke Gartland and Anthony Viola both had two run scored for PW.

Connor English recorded two RBI while Kaleb Powell doubled for Upper Moreland (4-8, 2-3 SOL Freedom), which lost its third straight.

In the bottom of the sixth, PW cut its deficit to 4-3 on Joe Redmond’s RBI single while Yanoshik’s two-run double gave the Colonials their first lead. A Joe Jaconski RBI sacrifice fly made it 6-4 while Viola scoring on an error and Jesse Jaconski stealing home put PW up four.

The Golden Bears scored a run in the first on Powell’s RBI double then took a 2-0 lead in the second on a RBI single by Kevin Davis.

Gartland scored on an error to make it 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth but an English two-RBI single pushed UM’s advantage to 4-1 in the top of the fifth. Joe Jaconski’s RBI sac fly in the bottom of the frame cut the margin to 4-2.

North Penn 7, Council Rock North 5 >> North Penn broke a 4-4 tie with three runs in the top of the sixth – Jeff Sabater driving in the first two runs with single to center – and the Knights held on for the SOL crossover victory.

Sabater was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Evan Sullivan hit a home run and scored twice for North Penn (6-4, 2-3 SOL Colonial).

Shane Anhalt went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored while Colin Manel was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Council Rock North (6-7, 2-3 Patriot), which lost its fourth straight.

Sullivan gave NP a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a solo home run to left.  Josh Huddy even the contest in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single.

Both teams scored a run in the second with each plating two in the fourth to stand tied 4-4.

Sabater put the Knights up for good with his two-run single while Sam Cohen’s RBI sacrifice fly had North Penn up 7-4 in the top of the sixth.

Anhalt started the bottom of the seventh to pull the Indians with 7-5. Lukas Mullen hit a one-out single to put the tying run on base but his courtesy runner was picked off first with a groundout sealing the Knights’ win.

Gavin Mikulski pitched the fifth and sixth to earn the victory, allowing two runs – both earned – on two hits, walked one and struck out two. Eric Hamilton got the save, giving up no runs and one hit.

Dock Mennonite 8, Great Valley 3 >> JD Bennett and Carter Jagiela each collected two hits and Dock Mennonite jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings in earning the nonleague win.

Bennett was 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice, Jagiela went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Nate Lapp had a triple, two RBIs and two run scored for the Pioneers.

Dock grabbed a quick lead with four runs in the top of the first. Lapp came home on a passed ball, Bennet scored on a wild pitch while an error allowed Sam Laux to come in for the first three runs. Garrett Nyce made it 4-0 with an RBI ground out.

In the second, Lapp put the Pioneers up 6-0 with his two-RBI triple then scored on a Bennett RBI single.

Great Valley scored two runs in the third and one in the sixth before Jagiela’s RBI single made it 8-3 in the top of the seventh.

Bensalem 5, Pennridge 1 >> Logan Young and Ryan McLaughlin combined to give up just one hit while Young went 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored as Bensalem stayed undefeated.

Nate Rice gave the Owls a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a bases-loaded three-RBI double.

Pennridge (2-10, 1-4 SOL Colonial) plated its lone run in the fourth as Bobby Croyle scored as Aidan McCloskey reached on an error. But Bensalem (10-0, 3-0 SOL Patriot) extended its advantage with two in the fifth on a Nick Nush RBI single and Young getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Young threw five innings, gave up one run – unearned – on no hits, walked two and struck out nine. McLaughlin pitched two frames, gave up no runs and one hit, struck out three and walked one.

Matt Dubyk collected Pennridge’s hit with a one-out single in the top of the sixth.

Hatboro-Horsham 13, Springfield-Montco 7 >> Cole Fisher was 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored as Hatboro-Horsham went led 11-2 lead after four innings and went on to claim its fourth straight victory.

Nick Katherine went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two run scored, Will Bruner was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Noah Gremo, Trey Porter and Jimmy Tooley all scored twice for the Hatters (7-6, 2-3 SOL Liberty), who have posted at least 11 runs in each game of its current win streak.

Andrew Kennedy put Springfield up 2-0 with his two-run home run in the top of the first before Fisher hit a solo homer in the bottom of the inning. A Bruner RBI fielder’s choice tied the game 2-2 in the second.

Hatboro-Horsham took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third on three consecutive RBI singles from Fisher, Tooley and Katherine and a bases-loaded Logan Fischer walk that made it 6-2.

The Hatters posted a five spot in the fifth. Elwell plated the first two with his RBI triple with a Fisher RBI single extended the lead to 9-2. Noah Schlosser scored on a passed ball while Ryan Toporowski’s RBI ground out had HH up 11-2.

Kennedy finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored for the Spartans (4-8, 4-1 SOL Freedom), who lost their sixth straight. Nate Dennis went 2-for-3 with two runs , Joe Smith was 2-for-3 and both Willum Conlin and Brett Smith had two RBIs.

Springfield pulled to within 11-7 after three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth before the Hatters tacked on two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
