Reporter/Times Herald Softball Roundup: Wilmot hit grand slam as North Penn beats Neshaminy

North Penn 5, Neshaminy 2 >> Bri Wilmot’s grand slam capped North Penn’s five-run bottom of the first inning and that was more than enough for Mady Volpe, who struck out 12  as the Knights bounced back from their first loss with an SOL nondivision win Friday afternoon.

Julia Shearer was 2-for-3 with a double, triple and a run scored for North Penn (7-1, 5-0 SOL Colonial). Volpe added an RBI single in the first and in the circle gave up two runs – one earned – on five hits, hit one batter and walked a pair.

Shearer began the bottom of the first with a double. After a Sarah Sabocsik single, Annabelle Smink walked to load the bases. Volpe’s RBI single to center made it 1-0 and on the next at-bat Wilmot connected on a grand slam to center.

Neshaminy (5-3, 4-1), which had its four-game win streak snapped, scored both of its runs in the top of the fifth. Mia Barone led off with a home run to left while Kennedy Ruth made it 5-2 with an RBI sacrifice fly.

Ruth took the loss for Neshaminy, giving five runs – all earned – on six hits in six innings. She walked two, hit one batter and struck out 11.

Quakertown 19, Pennridge 2 (6) >> Skyler Williams hit a grand slam as Quakertown scored 11 runs in the top of the sixth and rolled to its third straight victory.

Williams was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and four runs scored while Emma Hilton went 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and three runs for the Panthers (8-2, 3-1 SOL Liberty), who posted the game’s first four runs in the second then posted four more in the fifth to go up 8-1.

Quakertown starting pitcher Syd Andrews stuck out 11 in a complete-game win, giving up two runs – both earned – on five hits and a walk. At the plate, Andrews was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run.

Cadence Lewis finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run for the Panthers while AvaBeal had three RBIs and three runs scored and Maya Hellyer scored twice.

Madison Silber went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI for Pennridge (3-7, 1-4 SOL Colonial), which lost its third straight. Catelyn Thrush led off the Rams’ half of the fourth with a home run to center.

William Tennent 14, Springfield-Montco 4 (5) >> Meg Curtis and Gigi Demito both had four RBI and William Tennent scored seven runs both of the fifth to win the SOL Freedom contest in five innings.

Curtis was 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored, Demito hit a pair of RBI sac flies and Ella Mednick went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs for the Panthers (5-1, 4-0), who won their second straight.

Anna Coulter had two walks and three runs scored while Mackenzie Clee hit RBI triple, walked twice, had an RBI and three runs scored and also claimed the victory in the circle. Clee allowed four runs – one earned – on three hits, walked two and struck out seven.

Kayla Parsons scored twice for Springfield (1-6, 1-4) with Anna Posluszny and Taylor Schultz both collecting an RBI.

In the bottom of the fifth, Clee hit an RBI triple and two batters later Curtis’ two-RBI single made it 10-4. RBI sac flies from Demito and Olivia Clee put Tennent up eight before Mednick’s two-RBI single.

The Spartans grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Parsons came home when Mikayla Quinn reached on an error and a Posluszny RBI ground out. Tennent, however, made it 2-1 in the bottom of the inning on a Katie LaPlaunt bases-loaded walk.

The Panthers went ahead with three in the second as Curtis had a two-RBI double to right and Demito hit an RBI sac fly. A run in the third got Springfield to within 4-3 but the Panthers plated three in the fourth to go up 7-3. The Spartans  made it 7-4 with a run in the top of the fifth.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 23, New Hope-Solebury 0 (4) >> Lauryn Kane collected five RBIs and hit a two-run home run as Plymouth Whitemarsh erupted for 13 runs in top of the fourth and cruised to its second straight shutout victory.

Kane finished 2-for-5 and also scored twice, Hannah Suh was 3-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored while Molly Moore went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run for the Colonials (5-5, 2-3 SOL Liberty).

Marissa Perez was 3-for-3 with three run scored and Molly Lynch went 2-for-2 with a triple and scored twice for PW, which plated its first five runs in the second then went up 10-0 in the third.

Talia Carr had a triple, three RBIs and scored two runs, Carley Rosenberger collected a triple, an RBI and two runs scored while both Marissa Dudek and Regan Gehman scored twice.

New Hope-Solebury (2-6, 2-2 SOL Freedom) lost its fourth straight.
