Mercury Boys Tennis Roundup (April 16): Spring-Ford, Perk Valley sweep PAC matches

Perkiomen Valley 7, Pope John Paul II 0 >> The Vikings breezed to a PAC win over the Golden Panthers on Friday.

Evan Bolton won 6-0, 6-0 at third singles while the team of Evan Bulter/Eli Volczko won 6-0, 6-0 in second singles.

Also picking up wins for PV were Aaron Fry and Carter Young in first and second singles, respectively, and Jeremy Hadler/Henry Ye, Nick Russo/Ricardo Spadea and Justin Tagert/Alex Turley won at first, third and fourth doubles, respectively.

Spring-Ford 7, Boyertown 0 >> The Rams dropped just one singles point in Friday’s PAC win over the Bears.

Cameron Moore and Colton Pollock swept their matches at first and third singles, respectively, while Ryan Milller won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles.

Josh Pergine/Navein Suresh, Dan Thorpe/Ethan Shakour, Jacob Collier/Yash Rohera and Jacob Kolevas/Jupjowt Singh won doubles matches for Spring-Ford.

District 1 Tournament >> The Pioneer Athletic Conference’s four-person contingent at Friday’s District 1 Boys Tennis Championships all bowed out in the first round.

In Class 3A action, Spring-Ford junior Cameron Moore, who won the PAC singles title last week, came the closest to pulling of a win. Moore dropped his first round match 6-4, 7-5 to No. 8 seed Downingtown East sophomore Abhiraj Srivastava.

Owen J. Roberts senior Jason Sawicki, the PAC runner-up, dropped his match 6-0, 6-1 to No. 2 seed Council Rock South sophomore Alex Sterin.

In Class 2A, No. 3 seed Pope John Paul II’s senior Tommy Rutkowski fell 6-4, 6-1 to No. 2 seed Holy Ghost Prep junior Nico Blanco.
