Mercury Roundup (April 14): Methacton girls, boys win meets over Norristown

Boys track

Methacton 106, Norristown 21 >> Jason Shumaker was a two-event winner for the Warriors in Wednesday’s PAC meet with the Eagles.

Shumaker headed the 800 in a time of 2:17.01 and the 1,600 with a 4:52.86 clocking. Jaden Brown was big in sprints for Norristown, placing first in the 100 (10.97) and the 200 (22.72).

Girls track

Methacton 140, Norristown 9 >> The two-win outings of Kirsten O’Brien and Coco Dunham in the field led the Warriors’ near-sweep of first place during Wednesday’s PAC meet with the Eagles.

O’Brien placed first in the shot put (26-8) and discus (85-0), and Dunham did the same in the 100 (13.02) and triple jump (35-1). Norristown’s winning run of 54.80 in the 4×100 was its lone first-place showing.

Boys volleyball

Daniel Boone 3, Berks Catholic 0 >> Ian Wright was a statistical standout for the Blazers as they swept Wednesday’s Berks League match with the Saints. Set scores were 25-22, 25-19 and 29-27.

Wright had 28 assists, three kills and one block for Boone (6-2). Logan Emory had 11 kills and one ace; Coltan Stroble added 11 kills, one block and three digs; and Josh Smith had four blocks and two kills.

Boys golf

Perkiomen School 211, Abington Friends 243 >> The Panthers won their first match of the season Wednesday against Abington Friends.

Scoring for Perkiomen was Pierce Laessig 45, Lilly Hetrick 52, Aiden Carr 56 and Palmer Townsend 58. The match was Played at Huntington Valley Country Club.
