Delco Sports Roundup: Mathes dominant in Marple Newtown’s win

Owen Mathes pitched a gem in Marple Newtown’s 6-2 victory over Harriton.

Mathes gave up one hit and struck out eight in five innings.

Dillon Can paced the Tigers offense, going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Dom Carafa chipped in with a pair of doubles and Jason Anderson was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Strath Haven 10, Haverford 2 >> Haven starter Brett Mutz allowed three hits and no walks with six punchouts in five innings of work.

Christian Thack was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Chris Felder and Alex Hemingway each added a hit and two RBIs.

Cole Dempsey singled and knocked in a run for the Fords.

Ridley 3, Garnet Valley 2 >> Dan Stickney and Mike Milakeve drove in the tying and go-ahead runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gavin Severa was 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Green Raiders.

Mike Happersett pitched six solid frames with five strikeouts.

In nonleague action:

Haverford School 15, Lower Merion 1 >> Jake Stacey homered and had four RBIs to lead the Fords to a five-inning rout of the Aces. Ryan Getz belted a three-run dinger and Will Ferris and Chris Griggs rapped three hits apiece. Aidan White struck out six over three innings for his first varsity win.

Girls Lacrosse

Claire Natoli scored four goals and Maddie Sharley added three goals and one assist in Cardinal O’Hara’s 21-2 trouncing of Lansdale Catholic.

Ellie Miller registered two goals and three assists for the Lions. Rachel Familetti and Lexi Ferriola pitched in with two goals each. Casey McCollough made five saves in net.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Notre Dame 13, Agnes Irwin 12 >> Dani Falcone produced six goals, two assists and eight draw controls for the Irish in their overtime victory.

Katie Onderdonk (four goals, four draw controls) and Ava Bleckley (two goals, four draw controls) also excelled. Goalie Quinn Sullivan made 10 saves.
