Sacred Heart’s fast start leads to blowout win

Sacred Heart Academy got out to a blistering start and cruised to a 42-14 victory over Dock Mennonite Thursday.

The defending District 1 Class 2A champions led 18-2 after one quarter and never looked back. Ainsley Davis sank four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 19 points for the Lions. Emily McKenna added eight points in the winning cause.

In the Central League:

Marple Newtown 46, Garnet Valley 32 >> Nikki Mostardi tallied a game-high 16 points to lead the Tigers to a convincing win over the Jags. Haley Levy registered 13 points and six rebounds, while Mackenzie Hilden and Mary O’Brien pitched in six points apiece.

MaryRose Berry paced the Jags with seven points.

Springfield 54, Penncrest 17 >> All-Delco guard Alexa Abbonizio scored nine of her game-high 17 points in the opening quarter for the Cougars, who led at halftime, 31-8. Abbonizio hit four 3-point shots.

Rachel Conran made three baskets from beyond the arc and finished with 13 points. Kaitlyn Kearney added seven points in her varsity debut.

Boys Basketball

Carl Schaller poured in 19 points to lead Garnet Valley to a 52-43 win over Marple Newtown. The All-Delco netted eight points in the fourth quarter for the host Jags.

Justin Langan was 6-for-6 at the foul line and finished with 14 points. Gannon McKee added 10 points in the winning effort.

Eric McKee tallied a team-high 15 points for the Tigers.
