Sacred Heart can’t survive another five-setter, falls in PIAA semifinals

Sacred Heart Academy didn’t go down without a fight Tuesday night in its PIAA Class 2A semifinal against Marian Catholic .

In the fifth and deciding set, Marian claimed five of the last seven points to clinch a berth the state championship with a 3-2 win.

Sacred Heart dropped the first two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-22. The Lions rallied from an 18-8 deficit in the third set to beat Marian, 26-24, then built on their momentum to claim the fourth set, 25-16.

Despite leading 6-2 early in the fifth set, the Lions couldn’t stave off the District 11 champions.

Sacred Heart advanced to the state semifinals for the first time in program history after its 3-2 win over District 3 champion Mt. Calvary last Saturday.
