Kennett gridders fall to Exeter for 1st defeat of season

Kennett High School lost to Exeter, 35-8, Saturday evening, the Blue Demons’ lone touchdown coming on a short TD pass from quarterback Sam Forte to Buzzy Hertz.
The Blue Demons had been scheduled to play Sun Valley Friday evening, but that game was canceled because of a positive test for COVID-19 which involved one player in the Vanguard program. Kennett then picked up a Saturday evening contest with the Blue Hawks (4-2).
It was the first defeat of the season for Kennett (2-1), which trailed Exeter by a touchdown at halftime. Two weeks ago, the Blue Demons opened their season with a 30-22 win at West Chester Henderson, then defeated Great Valley last weekend 28-0.
“Exeter was the more physical team, our youth showed, but tonight was a ‘character game’ for us,” said Kennett head coach Lance Frazier. “We were challenged and pushed, and some of our players grew because of it.
“We had a quick [24-hour] turnaround, and we worked up a game plan as best as we could, but Exeter was in the same boat as we were. We missed some opportunities, dropped some passes and lost momentum in the second half. We’re looking forward to our next game.”
