DLN ALL-AREA: Boys Swimming 1st Team, 2nd Team & Honorable Mention

FIRST TEAM

BEN DOYLE, Downingtown East

Doyle finished seventh in the 100 breast (56.36) at the PIAA 3A state championships, and helped the Cougars’ 200 medley relay team (1:35.21) finish seventh at States with a split of 22.78. At Districts, he finished fifth in the 100 fly (51.37) and fourth in the 100 breast (57.73).

NICK HARRIS, Malvern Prep

Sophomore was the Inter-Ac, National Catholic and Easterns champion in the 1-meter diving event for the second consecutive year. Broke his own school record and pool record numerous times this winter, and set pool records at Episcopal, Penn Charter, Germantown Academy (6 and 11 dives) and Hill School (11 dives).

ALEC PIRONE, West Chester Rustin

The senior diver, a repeat Daily Local News All-Area first team selection, has been a District 1 and State qualifier in each of his four varsity seasons. This winter, he finished third at the PIAA 3A District 1 championships, and placed fifth at the PIAA 3A state meet. As a junior, Pirone shattered the school’s six-dive record with a score of 344.5.

RYAN DURKAN, Malvern Prep

Posted an All-American time in the 100 breast (56.69), which broke the school record of 57.39 from 2017. In the 200 IM, his time of 1:53.32 was third best in the Inter-Ac. Was a finalist in the 100 breast and 200 IM at Easterns and National Catholics.

GARY WANG, Conestoga

Sophomore finished ninth in the 100 breast (56.79) at the PIAA 3A state championships. At States, he also anchored the Pioneers’ 400 free relay team (3:09.49) that finished seventh and was the leadoff swimmer for the 200 free relay quartet that placed sixth (1:25.32).

RAYMOND WELGOSH, Conestoga

Sophomore finished 11th at the PIAA 3A state championships in both the 200 free (1:41.08) and 500 free (4:37.73). Also at States, he was part of two medal-winning Pioneer relay teams – 200 free relay (sixth) and 400 free relay (seventh).

DYLAN SMOLDERS, West Chester Henderson

The Warrior sophomore, a repeat first team Daily Local News All-Area first team selection, posted the fastest time in the Ches-Mont League in both the 200IM (1:55.33) and 500 free (4:45.00). At Districts, he finished fifth in 200IM and 10th in 500 free, then placed in the top 16 in the 200 IM at States.
