Harriton wrestler Bobby Lesser is Main Line Boys Athlete of the Week

Bobby Lesser

The senior 160-pounder had an impressive season, posting a record of 30-5 with 18 pins, finishing second at Sectionals and sixth at Regionals. For his Harriton career, he posted a won-loss record of 105-25 with 49 pins, and was only the fourth Ram wrestler to achieve the 100-win milestone.

Q: What do you consider your biggest strength on the mat and what you are working on most currently?

A: I’d say my biggest strength is using my length (6 foot tall) to my advantage. I’m much taller than most kids I wrestle so using ankle picks, sweep singles, and low legs are probably my biggest strengths.

Q: What does it mean to you to be only the fourth Harriton wrestler to achieve 100 career wins?

A: It feels really good to be one of four. And I’m glad I could represent my school as a wrestler these past four years.

Q: Tell us about your start in wrestling – what sparked your initial interest? Who have been your most important wrestling mentors, and what was the most important thing you learned from each of them?

A: My Dad got me into wrestling when I was very young. I have him to thank for exposing me to a multitude of coaches throughout my career. The most important thing I have learned is that you have to prepare yourself as much mentally as you do physically.

Q: Tell us a little about your pre-match preparation the day of a match.

A: The day of a match I am usually trying to keep my weight down so I’ll usually have a small breakfast like oatmeal or some fruit. Throughout the day I try to keep my mind off the match. When the school day ends I check my weight to make sure I’m still on then I proceed to go over my game plan in my head. I do this by sort of just envisioning myself taking and finishing shots.

Q: What do you think you would like to major in at college?

A: I want to major in something business related in college. Whether that be business marketing or entrepreneurship I have yet to figure out.
