Reporter Boys Basketball: Wissahickon tops Upper Moreland; Souderton, Dock roll to wins

Wissahickon 56, Upper Moreland 52 >> Matt Compas led Wissahickon with 18 points — 12 coming in the second half — as the Trojans gave their District 1-6A playoff hopes a boost by winning Thursday’s back-and-forth SOL American contest.

Upper Moreland went out to an 18-3 lead and was up 20-11 at the end of the first quarter. Wissahickon (12-10, 10-4 conference), however, bested the Golden Bears 14-4 in the second quarter to go into halftime leading 25-24.

UM ended the third up 41-38 but the Trojans rallied in the fourth, outscoring the Bears 19-11 in the final period.

Harrison Williams hit four 3-pointers and recorded 11 of his 16 points after halftime for the Trojans, who won their second straight. Wissahickon came into the contest 25th in the district rankings with 24 teams making the 6A field.

McKie Walker scored a game-high 20 points for Upper Moreland (14-7, 7-7), which dropped its second straight. Jordan Gregg and Matt Tiernan both had 12 points. 

Souderton 69, Quakertown 38 >> Tommy Doughty led all scorers with 21 points and Souderton jumped out to a 23-6 lead after a quarter in cruising to an SOL Continental win.

Brian Reiner posted 11 points while Matt Uhrich chipped in 10 points for the Indians (13-9, 7-5 conference), who stopped a two-game losing skid. Big Red led 35-14 at halftime.

Jack Gordon’s nine points paced Quakertown (2-20, 0-12).

Dock Mennonite 72, Church Farm School 34 >> Devon Jainlett finished with a game-high 18 points, Steve Martin added 17 points and Dock Mennonite used strong second and third quarters to roll to a fifth straight victory.

Darius Ellis had 12 points for the Pioneers (17-4, 14-1 BAL Presidents), who outscored Church Farm 16-4 in the second quarter to lead 33-14 at halftime. Dock then took the third 25-11.

Brandon Hernandez scored nine points to lead the Griffins (9-8, 8-5 BAL Independence).
