Main Line wrap-up: Lower Merion boys basketball team continues on winning path

The Lower Merion boys basketball team improved to 11-1 with a 55-43 win against host Parkland at the Parkland Parkinson’s Jamfest Jan. 12. The Aces led throughout against Parkland, one of the top teams in Districts 11.
One day earlier, the Aces defeated Strath Haven, 64-43. Jaylen Shippen and James Simples led the Aces attack with 17 points each, while Lance Chestnut chipped in with 14 points.
On Jan. 9, Lower Merion romped to a 72-46 win against Lower Merion. Sam Brown led a balanced attack with 17 points, James Simples chipped in with 15 points, Demetrius Lilley added 13 points and Peter Gribbin tallied 12 points. The Aces held Marple to 18 first-half points.

Boys’ basketball
Archbishop Carroll defeated Father Judge, 51-39, Jan. 10. Anquan Hill made nine field goals, including five 3s, for a game-high 24 points for the Patriots. Hill hit three of his long-distance baskets in the opening quarter. Tairi Kettner added nine points and Amiri Stewart had seven.
Devon Prep defeated host LaSalle, 66-62, Jan. 12. Eamon Walsh scored 22 points, including three treysm and was 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Chris Patton converted five treys en route to 17 points. Nick Crowe and Scion Dorsey each scored eight points.
The Tide defeated Kennett, 79-66, Jan. 8. The Tide featured a balanced scoring attack, with 11 players reaching the scoring column, led by Chris Patton (14 points), Eamon Walsh (12 points) and Jack Samms (nine points).
Episcopal Academy defeated Springside Chestnut Hill, 65-63, Jan. 10, led by Alex Capitano (21 points), Andrew Alikakos (16 points) and Colin Chambers (11 points).
Harriton defeated Ridley, 54-50, Jan. 9. Khayri Ransom had 17 points including four treys and Michael Tabasso chipped in 12 points for the Rams, who knocked down nine 3-pointers in the game.
Haverford School defeated Penn Charter, 43-40, Jan. 10. Christian Clover tallied nine of his game-high 20 points in the first quarter and nailed four 3-point field goals to carry the Fords past the Quakers. Raijon Dispensa had three triples for nine points.
Malvern Prep defeated West Chester East, 69-59, Jan. 11. Deuce Turner scored 28 points for the Friars, and teammate Fran Oschell tallied 17.
One day earlier, the Friars defeated Germantown Academy, 63-42. Deuce Turner scored 20 points, and Rahdir Hicks chipped in with 10 points for the winners.
Radnor lost to Conestoga, 50-43, Jan. 9. Lewis Robinson had 15 of his 19 points in the second half and Jack D’Entremont seven of his 10 points in the second quarter.

Girls’ basketball
Academy of Notre Dame defeated Agnes Irwin, 65-15, Jan. 10. Eleven Owls reached the scoring column, and Allie Lynch, Katie Halligan and Mikayla Dever each scored 10 points.
One day earlier, the Irish defeated Friends’ Central, 65-52, getting 27 points from Maeve McErlane and 15 points from Julia Dever.
The Irish defeated Baldwin School, 59-54, in overtime Jan. 7. Maeve McErlane scored 26 points and Allie Lynch chipped in with 15.
Archbishop Carroll lost to Neumann-Goretti, 56-51, Jan. 10. Taylor Wilson paced the Patriots with 16 points. Grace O’Neill (15) and All-Delco Erin Sweeney (13) also reached double figures in scoring. O’Neill was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line and Sweeney added six rebounds and two steals. Karli Dougherty contributed three points, eight rebounds and two assists.
Conestoga defeated Penncrest, 31-22, Jan. 11. The Pioneers were led by Kate Galica (10 points, seven steals, five rebounds) and Katharine Gay (10 points, five rebounds, three assists).
Haverford defeated Penncrest, 50-21, Jan. 9. The Fords jumped out to a 14-0 lead after eight minutes and cruised the rest of the way. Caroline Dotsey led the offensive attack with 17 points and Addison Brodnik added nine.
Merion Mercy Academy defeated Nazareth Academy, 50-34, Jan. 9. Kiersten Krouse led Merion with 16 points (including four treys) and Lucy Curry added 14 points. Maura D’Aulerio led Nazareth with 13 points.
Radnor defeated Conestoga, 46-24, Jan. 9. Ellie Mueller was a one-woman wrecking crew for the Riaders, as the senior forward single-handedly matched Conestoga in points and flirted with a triple-double. She finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and five steals. Brienne Williams pitched in  eight points for the Raiders, who closed the game on a 26-11 run.
Two days later, Radnor lost to Haverford, 63-53. Chiara Macgillvray scored 11 of her game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter. Brienne Williams tallied 17, Julia Rigolizzo 13 and Ellie Mueller 10 for the road team.
The Red Raiders lost to Episcopal Academy, 49-38, Jan. 12 at the Hoops for Hope shootout at the University of the Sciences. Ellie Mueller (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Caitlin Higgins (10 points) were the top scorers for Radnor.
Sacred Heart Academy defeated Calvary Christian, 28-10, Jan. 9. Ainsley Davis scored 12 points and Kayleigh Doyle added seven for the Lions.
Villa Maria Academy (8-4) defeated Monsignor Scanlan (N.Y.), 51-46, Jan. 12. Morgan Warley scored 20 points for the Hurricanes, who held a 32-20 halftime advantage.

Boys’ swimming
Conestoga defeated Ridley, 100-76, Jan. 9. First-place finishers for the Pioneers included the 200 medley relay team of Jack Hughes, Ishau Jiang, Stanley Kim and James Hughes; Raymond Welgosh (200 free and 100 breast), Christopher Ivory (200 IM), Steven Graver (100 fly), Noel Park (100 free), Aidan Brown (500 free), the 200 free relay team of James Johnson, Matt Pawlow, Luke Nagel and Stanley Kim; Jack Hughes (100 back); and the 400 free relay team of Ishau Jiang, Stanley Kim, James Manion and Steven Graver.
Episcopal Academy defeated Penn Charter, 101-69, Jan. 7. Henry Haupt was a double individual winner for EA, in the 200 free and 100 breast, and pool records were set by EA in the 200 medley relay (Jack Christian, Ben Wesley, Cole Whitsett, Sam Wesley, 1:34.69); 100 fly (Cole Whitsett, 51.10); 200 free relay (Ben Wesley, Jack Christian, Cole Whitsett, Sam Wesley, 1:26.05) and 400 free relay (Jack Christian, Cole Whitsett, Ben Wesley, Sam Wesley, 3:11.18).
Haverford School defeated Malvern Prep, 97-87, Jan. 7. First-place finishers for the Fords included Jack Deppen (200 medley relay, 200 free, 500 free, 400 free relay), Antonio Octaviano (medley relay, 100 fly, 200 free relay), Brian Brennan (medley relay, 200 IM, 100 back, 400 free relay), Bobby Blewett (medley relay, 50 free, 100 free, 200 free relay), Bram Schork (200 free relay), Jake LaRocca (200 free relay), Ryan LaRocca (400 free relay) and Matej Sekulic (400 free relay).

Girls’ swimming
Academy of Notre Dame lost to Episcopal Academy, 106-80, Monday. Individual winners for the Rish were Mia Abruzzo (100 fly, 100 breast), Madison Kolessar (200 free, 100 back), Ashley Kolessar (200 IM) and Natalie Stuart (500 free).
Conestoga defeated Ridley, 101-76, Jan. 9. First-place finishers for the Pioneers included the 200 medley relay team of Kalie Whitaker, Adriana Bertolotti, Lily Robinson and Keira Haas; Naomi Furman (200 free, 100 free); Lilly Shui (200 IM); Kalie Whitaker (50 free); Phoebe Hutton (diving); Keira Wiley (100 fly); Delaney Burns (500 free); the 200 free relay team of Delaney Burns, Lily Robinson, Audrey Laganelli and Alyssa Totoro; Ava Collin (100 back); Lily Robinson (100 breast) and the 400 free relay team of Louise Hay, Lucy Wydeven, Delaney Burns and Audrey Laganelli.
Episcopal Academy defeated Academy of Notre Dame, 106-80, Monday. Individual winners for EA were Kelly Feuzeu Mekoue (50 free, 100 free), Kat Harrar (diving).
The Churchwomen Penn Charter, 94-91, Jan. 7. Double individual winners for EA were Camille Weiss (200 free, 500 free), Sally E. Foley (200 IM, 100 breast) and Kelly Feuzeu Mekoue (50 free, 100 free).

Wrestling
Episcopal Academy defeated Westtown, 50-15, Jan. 9. Matt McHugh, Alex Sladek and Paul McLaughlin all recorded pins in less than a minute to pace EA. McLaughlin had the fastest pin when he decked Arauz Eli in 33 seconds at 285 points. McHugh pinned Nicolo Secul in 35 seconds at 120 and Sladek dropped An Ngo in 44 seconds at 138. Anthony Lucian (152) and Robert Aldridge (170) also won by fall, while Flynn Kearney (126) and Frederick Greene (195) won by major decision.
Haverford High defeated Lower Merion, 39-33, Jan. 8. Four Fords earned pins – Shane Crossan (132 pounds), Stephen Lozana (152), Jack Rostin (220) and Jack Lacianca (113). Brennan Kramp at 126 pounds won a 6-3 decision.
Haverford School finished ninth at the 202 Bissell Invitational Jan. 11. Billy Brosko (220 pounds) finished second and Kwaku Adubofour (285) placed third.
The Fords defeated Penn Charter, 36-32, Jan. 10. For Haverford, Ben Trucksess (170 pounds) got a fall, and Jack Campbell (120) earned a 14-8 victory.
Lower Merion lost to Haverford High, 39-33, Jan. 8. Three LM wrestlers earned pins – Judea Williams (120 pounds), Christian Hodges (145) and Reed Braunfeld (106). Jack Lledo (138) won by technical fall, James Lledo earned a major decision at 170 pounds, and both David Igwe (182) and Samuel Richard (160) won decisions.
