Delco Girls Basketball Super 7: Dec. 20, 2019

1. Archbishop Carroll (4-1)

The reigning Catholic League champs and PIAA Class 5A runners-up are off and running with wins against North Penn, Bonner-Prendie, Maret (D.C.) and Cape Henlopen (Del.). With All-Delco and Drexel-bound guard Erin Sweeney out due to injury, the Patriots fell to West Catholic in overtime Tuesday night, 57-51

2. Cardinal O’Hara (4-1)

Junior guard Amaris Baker is shouldering the scoring load so far. The Lions put up 70 points on Neumann-Goretti, but in a loss. O’Hara rebounded with a blowout of Archbishop Ryan Tuesday night.

O’Hara is at Carroll Friday evening.

3. Bonner-Prendergast (2-1)

The Pandas have good shooting, size and athleticism. Sophomore Bridie McCann and senior Alexis Gleason have been superb in the early going.

4.  Springfield (4-2)

The Cougars are probably the favorite in a wide-open Central League. Senior guard Alyssa Long is the floor general and junior guard Alexa Abbonizio is perhaps the best long-distance shot in Delco. The Cougars have won four in a row.

5. Ridley (6-1)

Watch out for the Green Raiders, who are winners of four straight, including a win over reigning Central League and District 1 6A champions Garnet Valley. Senior guard Dakota McCaughan has clearly made a huge impact in her first season at Ridley. Juniors Shannen Hinchey and Lindsay Boyd, who dropped  23 points vs. Conestoga Tuesday night, are off to excellent starts.

6. Notre Dame (4-1)

The Irish are only getting better, starting two sophomores (Maeve McErlane,  and a freshman. They play aggressive defense and they share the ball really well. Sophomore guard Maeve McErlane is going to be a star.

7. Garnet Valley (4-1)

The new-look Jaguars, with five first-year starters, need a little time to mesh, but should be considered among the contenders in the Central League.

Honorable mention: Radnor (3-1)
