Hunt’s debut a success for Upper Darby

Upper Darby freshman Connor Hunt got his scholastic swimming career off to a fine start, winning two individual events and being part of two winning relays as the Royals topped Archbishop Carroll, 90-52, in the season opener for both teams.

Hunt won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, and was part of the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams. Kevyn Daly was a triple winner. He was first in the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle and was on the triumphant 200 freestyle relay squad.

Liam Brady (50 free) and Brandan Gould (100 back) were the winners for the Patriots.

In other nonleague action:

Sun Valley 103, Chichester 59 >> Junior Nick Fursman collected four wins and Josh Landis and Blaze Graham added three each for the Vanguards.

Fursman touched the wall first in the 100 and 200 freestyle, and was on the winning 200 medley and 200 free relay teams. Landis and Graham were on both relays. Landis also won the 100 butterfly, while Graham captured the 200 IM.

Corey Kan (50 free), Luke Schealer (100 back) and Matthew Sendek (100 breast) were the individual winners for Chi.

Ridley 101, Roman Catholic 65 >> Mario Costa showed his versatility, winning the 1-meter diving, 200 freestyle and helping the 200 medley and 400 free relay teams to victory.

Eric Boeckx and Wyatt Shanks also were quadruple winners. Boeckx won the 200 IM and 100 breast, and was on the winning 200 medley and 200 free relay teams. Shanks was on both of those relays and captured the 50 free and 100 back.

Girls Swimming

Jenna Johnson and Olivia Carr picked up four wins each to help Sun Valley open the season with a 107-52 triumph over Chichester.

Johnson and Carr were on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams. Johnson also touched the wall first in the 200 IM and the 100 back, while Carr won the 50 free and 100 breast. Keeley Durkin took home three victories.

Upper Darby 80, Arch. Carroll 21 >> Grace Purnell opened the season with four wins and Emily Lehman added three for the Royals.

Purnell took first in the 50 and 100 free, and was on the winning 200 and 400 free relays. Lehman captured the 200 IM and also was a member of the two successful relays. Allison Ascareggi, Cass Connelly and Kiera Hunt chipped in with two wins each.

Schuylder Gock took first in the 200 freestyle for Carroll.

Ridley 97, Merion Mercy 78 >> Grace Reagan captured the 50 free and 200 breast and was on the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays to pace the Green Raiders.

Tommi Claiborne won the 200 free and was part of the 200 medley and 200 free relay teams. Hailey King captured the 200 IM and was part of the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
