Strath Haven, Garnet Valley set for Central League showdown

The stage is set for a winner-take-all battle for the Central League title between Strath Haven and Garnet Valley Wednesday night at Strath Haven.

The Panthers did their part with a 3-0 victory over Harriton, while the Jaguars knocked off Upper Darby, 3-0, to set up the championship showdown. Both teams enter the final match of league play with 9-1 records.

Gabby McGinn collected 17 assists, eight kills, five digs and five aces to lead Strath Haven to a 25-11, 25-12, 25-16 win over the Rams. Liv Dumont added 10 kills, nine assists, five digs and one ace, while Ellie Fisher pitched in with 13 digs, 10 kills, two aces, two assists and two blocks.

Meanwhile, at Garnet Valley, the seniors led the Jaguars to a 25-7, 25-15, 25-12 victory over the Royals on senior night.

Georgia Smith delivered four kills, four aces, four digs and three blocks. Sofia Davis (10 digs, five kills, four aces), Sophia Antignani (five kills, five digs, three aces), Cailey McDermott (10 digs, four kills, three aces), Sam Mann (four kills, four aces) and Roz McDonald (16 assists, two kills, one block) also came up big for the Jags.

Elsewhere in the Central League

Haverford 3, Springfield 2 >> Emily Scott pounded nine kills and Cara Frederick recorded 10 digs to pace the Fords (10-8, 6-4) to the 25-22, 26-24, 17-25, 22-25, 15-10 victory.

Ashley Dolan collected 19 assists and eight kills. Kate Hurley added seven kills and Maddie Sitley chipped in with 14 kills for the Cougars.

Conestoga 3, Penncrest 1 >> Lily Mallon recorded the 1,000th dig of her career, but it wasn’t enough as the Lions fell 12-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-18.

Mallon finished with 27 digs and two aces. Kristina Balta had 30 assists and seven digs, while Julia Kasper added 12 kills and 10 digs.

Marple Newtown 3, Radnor 2 >> Hannah Vickers recorded 20 kills and 10 digs to help the Tigers rally for a 15-25, 20-25, 25-23, 26-24, 15-12 victory. Maureen Hamson added 24 assists and Azira Benjamin contributed three kills and four blocks.

Josie Darrach collected 18 kills, 15 assists and seven aces for the Raiders. Lucy Criscuolo pitched in with 11 kills, Helen Hu handed out 19 assists and Grace Ramphrey and Jordan Dell led the defense with nine digs each.

Lower Merion 3, Ridley 0 >> Riley Finnegan had 12 kills and Angela April added 11 digs, eight kills and three aces in the 25-16, 25-19, 25-22 loss for the Green Raiders. Abi Herrin chipped in with seven kills and Casey Tinney contributed 16 assists.

Bishop Shanahan 3, Sun Valley 0 >> Hannah Vickers registered the 1,000th assist of her career, but the Vanguards fell 25-15, 25-10, 25-20.

Vickers finished with nine assists. Christine Guenther had 10 digs and Liv Nickerson added five kills for Sun Valley (16-5, 7-2).
