Academy Park suffers first loss in West Virginia

Academy Park’s trip to West Virginia made it just the latest in a long line of teams handily dismissed by Martinsburg.

The three-time reigning West Virginia Class 3A champ made Academy Park its 46th consecutive win in a 45-8 pounding. Barry Brown’s one-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter stood as AP’s only points against the Bulldogs, who beat AP 42-20 in Sharon Hill last season.

Brown threw three interceptions, all picked by Teddy Marshall, as AP (4-1) suffered its first setback of the season.

Elijah Banks threw for three touchdowns and ran for one. He found Naieem Kearney with one of those scores, and Kearney ran for two TDs.

Banks found Jarod Bowie for a 38-yard score in the first quarter, then ran 12 yards to make it 14-0 Bulldogs. Banks answered Brown’s touchdown run with a 27-yard scoring hookup with Malakai Brown for a 21-8 halftime lead. Kearney dashed for scores of three and seven yards around a 19-yard catch from Banks after the break.
