April helps Ridley spring surprise on Penncrest

Another week, another five-set thriller for Penncrest. Only this time, it was Ridley left celebrating at the end.

Angela April posted a double-double of 15 kills and 16 digs plus four aces as Ridley outlasted the Lions, 3-2, in Central League action Monday night. The Green Raiders won by game scores of 25-22, 13-25, 25-21, 18-25 and 15-9.

Dakota McCaughan came up with 19 digs to go with four aces. Madison Vinovrski provided five blocks at the net, and Abi Herrin had 12 digs, five kills, four blocks and three aces for Ridley.

Liz Kurcon pace Penncrest with 15 digs and 10 kills. Kristina Balta handed out 25 assists to go with 15 kills and nine digs, and Lily Mallon served two aces to go with 20 digs for the Lions.

In other Central League matches:

Strath Haven 3, Lower Merion 1 >> Liv Dumont did it all Monday, leading Strath Haven with a stat-stuffing line of 14 kills, 20 assists, 13 digs, four blocks and seven aces.

Gabby McGinn paired 13 kills with 22 assists and 14 digs. Ellie Fisher was also in double-figures with 12 kills; she and Megan Prendergast (four aces) came up with 31 digs each. Emily Crowther and Gabby McGinn combined for 29 digs and had two aces apiece.

Springfield 3, Marple Newtown 0 >> Hannah Roberts came up with 10 kills, eight digs and seven assists, but Marple Newtown fell, 25-19, 25-23 and 25-16.

Mairead Moran added three kills and three digs, and Maureen Hamson added five kills and eight assists for Marple Newtown.

Details were not reported for Springfield.

Haverford 3, Upper Darby 0 >> Rylee Shanahan’s defense was on point with 32 digs and eight kills, but the Royals fell to Haverford, 25-16, 25-20 and 25-22. Violet Lange added six kills and 14 digs for Upper Darby.

Details for Haverford were not reported.

Garnet Valley 3, Harriton 0 >> Maya Iovacchini supplied seven kills, and Sam Mann added nine kills and two blocks as the Jags made quick work of the Rams, 25-12, 25-17 and 25-20. Katelyn Dugery added five kills and two blocks to the attack.

Sophia Antignani led the Garnet defense with 20 digs, and Roz McDonald chipped in 13 assists, two digs and an ace.

Conestoga 3, Radnor 0 >> Grace Remphrey came up with 11 digs, and Jose Darrach (three kills, three blocks, six digs) was all-around solid, but the Raiders couldn’t overcome a sluggish start in a 25-7, 25-11, 27-25 loss.

In the Catholic League:

Archbishop Carroll 3, Bonner & Prendergast 0 >> Lindsey Fagan filled the stat sheet with 10 kills, three blocks, six assists and eight digs, but the Pandas fell, 25-16, 25-11 and 25-11.

Amanda Trigg and Sam Lachette had 11 digs each, Lachette adding five kills, and Abby Lance dished 15 assists for the Pandas (4-2, 3-1).

Details for Archbishop Carroll were not reported.

In nonleague action:

Sun Valley 3, Chichester 0 >> Jordan Thompson had four aces and four kills, and Laura Strizinger had three kills as the Vanguards (5-2) kept the Eagles in single digits in all three games.
