Mercury Girls Volleyball Roundup: PJP upends Villa Maria in battle of unbeatens

Villa Maria and Pope John Paul II met last fall with a District 1-3A championship on the line.

The Hurricanes and Golden Panthers met once again Monday as District 1-3A’s top two teams, ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the district power rankings, respectively.

After falling to the Villa Maria in last year’s championship, PJP exacted its revenge with a 3-0 win (26-24, 25-17 and 27-25) to stay unbeaten on the season.

Hanna Tulli had 12 kills for PJP followed by Heather Lesinski (11) and Sarah Ward (9). Haley Spotts led PJP with 21 digs, and Tea Pasquale added 10 digs. Chelsea Harvey totaled 35 assists and seven digs in the win.

Boyertown 3, Spring-Ford 0 >> The Bears swept the Rams (25-20, 25-19, 25-22) for the PAC Liberty win.

Emma Ludwig (31 assists, three blocks, three kills), Emily Wolfe (11 kills, three aces), Adrianna Derstine (13 kills), Julia Smith (22 digs, two aces) and Savanna Derstine (11 digs) were Boyertown’s statistical leaders.

Perkiomen Valley 3, Norristown 0 >> PV won in straight sets, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21, Monday afternoon. PV leaders were Isabel Clauhs (16 kills, 3 digs), Camila Leyes (14 digs) and Allie Haflett (4 kills, 2 blocks, 3 digs).

Owen J. Roberts 3, Phoenixville 1 >> Bridget Kowalski had 20 digs to lead the Wildcats in the PAC crossover win.

Also helping OJR were Jordyn Chambers (three aces, two kills, 17 assists, and a block), Hannah Lewiski (four aces, four kills, 20 digs), Chloe Golass (five kills, three assists, six blocks and three digs) and Ashley Beitel (three kills, five blocks).
