Mitchell puts on a show in Delco Christian eight-man football debut

Jordan Mitchell put on quite a show as Delco Christian kicked off its foray into eight-man football Saturday afternoon.

Mitchell scored four touchdowns, amassed 275 all-purpose yards, picked off a pass and recovered a fumble to pace the Knights to a 30-6 victory over Valley Forge Military Academy in their season and Keystone State Football League opener.

The junior wide receiver/defensive back/return specialist caught touchdown passes of 51 and 37 yards from quarterback Ben Iott, returned a punt 64 yards for a TD and scampered 52 yards for his final score. He ran the ball four times for 86 yards, caught two passes for 88 yards and returned two punts for 101 yards.

Mitchell also had a 35-yard touchdown run wiped out by a holding call, but it wasn’t for naught. Four plays later, after the Knights suffered a pair of minus-yardage plays from scrimmage, Mitchell raced 52 yards to paydirt to give DC a 24-6 advantage.

Connor Crowe capped the scoring for DC when he pulled in a 39-yard TD pass from Josh Dell’Arciprete in the fourth quarter. Two-way lineman Obinna Nwobodo had a big day on defense with an interception and a fumble recovery.
