Reporter Field Hockey Roundup: Abington, Upper Dublin play to draw; Germantown Academy wins in OT

Abington 2, Upper Dublin 2 >> Allie Rock pulled the Upper Dublin field hockey team even with Abington 2-2 with 5:40 left in the second half off a Maise Hanson assist and the teams went on to settle for a 2-2 draw in their SOL American Conference matchup Tuesday.

Rock also picked up an assist on Julia Reardon’s goal that gave Upper Dublin (2-1-1, 1-1-1 conference) a 1-0 lead at 16:25 in the first half. Abington, however, struck twice just before the break — Devon DiMaria making it 1-1 at 1:32 while Aly Campbell put the Galloping Ghosts (0-2-1, 0-1-1) up with 50 seconds left.

Rhianna Gonzales had eights saves for UD, which hosts Upper Moreland 10 a.m. Saturday for its 11th Annual Corners for Cancer. Abington goalie Marilyn Capps stopped six shots.

Germantown Academy 2, Agnes Irwin 1 (OT) >> Ella Henry scored the game-winner in overtime as Germantown Academy won its Inter-Ac opener.

Maddi Ota had the first goals for the Patriots (2-1-0, 1-0-0 league) while Catherine McFaden had two assists.

Gwynedd Mercy 9, Sacred Heart 0 >> Sydney Mandato scored three times, Alden Bocella had two goals and an assist and Gwynedd Mercy cruised to an AACA victory.

Caroline Sweeney added a goal and two assists while Alaina McVeigh, Alex Wentz and Morgan McMenamin each tallied a goal for the Monarchs (2-1-0, 1-1-0)

Central Bucks East 3, North Penn 0 >> Phia Mannino recorded a goal and assist as Central Bucks East shutout North Penn for its fifth straight win.

Mannino had the helper on Grace Melloy’s goal that put the Patriots (5-1-0, 3-0-0 SOL Continental) up 1-0 at 9:33 in the first half. Mannino made it 2-0 at 3:11 before the break while Allison Gallant scored  at 11:16 in the second half.

Mallory Stowell made 11 saves for North Penn (0-3-1, 0-2-0 SOL Continental), which also got a defensive save from Megan Albert. CB East goalie Emily Bullard finished with nine saves.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 13, Cheltenham 0 >> Eight different players scored for Plymouth Whitemarsh, Ava Borkowski leading with four goals while Alexis Minor adding three goals as the Colonials rolled to an SOL American victory.

Sarah Trask made two saves for her first shutout win of the season. Kaleigh Missimer and Molly Lynch each finished with a goal and an assist for PW (3-0-0, 3-0-0), which led 9-0 at halftime.

Academy Notre Dame 8, Archbishop Carroll 0 >>  Archbishop Carroll goalkeeper Cat Crossan made 11 saves as the Patriots dropped a nonleague matchup with host Academy Notre Dame.
