Balta leads Penncrest to another five-set win

The Penncrest volleyball team sure doesn’t mind going five sets with Central League rivals.

Two days after defeating Garnet Valley in five, the Lions did it again, this time outlasting Springfield, 3-2.

The game scores were 25-21, 13-25, 26-24, 24-26, 15-12.

Kristina Balta filled up the stat sheet with 25 assists, nine digs, nine kills and five aces for the Lions. Liz Kurcon chipped in with 11 kills, two aces and two digs.

Maddie Sitley (14 kills) and Grace Sherlock (13 kills) put forth strong performances in the losing effort, and Ashley Dolan dished 26 assists for the Cougars.

Elsewhere in the Central League:

Garnet Valley 3, Haverford 0 >> The Jaguars swept the Fords 25-20, 25-15, 25-16.

Sam Mann led the way for the Jags with 13 kills and five blocks, while Caitlyn Hagerty pitched in with six kills and seven digs. Sofia Davis added seven kills and Maddie Wood notched 28 assists, eight digs, three aces and two digs.

Ridley 3, Radnor 0 >> The Green Raiders rolled past the Raiders 25-14, 25-20, 25-16. Angela April recorded 11 kills and seven digs in the winning effort. Abi Herrin chipped in with nine kills, Casey Tinney handed out 17 assists and Carley Ganley notched 11 digs.

Josie Darrach (six kills, six assists, eight digs) and Emma Kirsch (17 digs) excelled for Radnor.

Strath Haven 3, Marple Newtown 0 >> Gabby McGinn tallied eight aces, 14 assists and five kills as Strath Haven gutted out a 26-24 first-set win before easing to victory in the last two, 25-8 and 25-16.

Liv Dumont and Megan Prendergast added four aces each, Dumont supplying eight aces and Prendergast six digs. Ellie Fisher led the attack with 13 kills.

Lower Merion 3, Upper Darby 0 >> The Royals fell to the Aces by scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-12. Violet Lange paired eight kills with six aces and seven digs, while Rylee Shanahan tacked on 15 digs for the Royals.

In a nonleague match:

Notre Dame 3, Bonner & Prendergast 0 >> The backcourt trio of Bynn Pippet, Grace Clark and Ciara Gibbs showed the way for the Irish (2-1). Katelyn Dougherty, Amelia Swan and Gia D’Antonio were excellent on attack

Lindsay Fagan had seven kills and six assists to lead the Pandas, while Amanda Triggs and Alyssa Gannon combined for 24 digs
