North Penn kicks off season against familiar foe Neshaminy

Two old friends and fierce rivals will get it started for 2019, as Neshaminy travels to North Penn Friday night for a Suburban One League non-conference battle.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Crawford Stadium.

The game is a rematch of last year’s District 1-6A quarterfinal, in which the Knights put the game away in dramatic fashion when Evan Spann returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown to lock up a 13-6 victory.

Spann is one of the featured returners for the Knights, on both defense and as a wide receiver on offense.

Spann, an all-conference honorable mention at receiver in 2018, was second on the team in receptions (13) and receiving yards (291).

Said Spann: “I feel we (have) a good vibe, because we can pass the ball and we can run the ball. We’ve got a new quarterback and he’s willing to take chances deep or run the ball himself. So I’m just excited with the whole aspect of the offense.”

Senior Kolby Barrow is set to take over the quarterback spot while coach Dick Beck has also been impressed by freshman Ryan Zeltt.

The Skins, meanwhile, also have some nice pieces to build around on the offensive side of things.

Senior quarterback Brody McAndrew enters his third season and directs a balanced attack. McAndrew has passed for over 3,300 yards and 33 touchdowns in his career as a Skin.

The backfield makes his job easier.

Junior running back Chris James is back, having racked up 1,400 rushing yards in 2018. Senior center Zack Magdelinskas anchors an experienced offensive line, which also includes juniors Kenny Monaco and Nik Soska, who are both returning starters.

Two squads used to meeting in the postseason get it all started this time around in 2019.

Central Bucks West at Hatboro-Horsham

Players to Watch: Josh Balcarcel is a tough runner for Del Val. Shane Hartzell is one of the best linebackers around for the Rams.
Prediction: Pennridge 38, Delaware Valley 30.

Pottsgrove at Souderton
Time/Place: Friday, 7 p.m., at Souderton.
