DLN ALL-AREA: Baseball First Team, 2nd Team, Honorable Mention & Coach of the Year

FIRST TEAM PITCHERS

Adam Grintz, Sr, Downingtown West

Grintz led the Whippets with an 8-1 record with 80 strikeouts and an earned run average of .083. Grintz will be attending Tulane University in the fall.

Tristan Corcoran, Jr, Malvern Prep

Corcoran led a deep Malvern Prep staff with a 4-1 record and 51 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.14.

FIRST TEAM CATCHER

Eric Grintz, Sr, Downingtown West

The best catcher in District 1, Grintz hit .306 with five home runs and five doubles. Grintz will be attending the University of North Carolina in the fall.

FIRST TEAM INFIELDERS

Anthony Boccio, Sr, Coatesville

Besides being an excellent fielder, Boccio hit .367, scored 26 runs and banged out 22 hits. He will be attending Widener University in the fall.

Ryan Weaver, Jr, Coatesville

The Red Raiders’ cleanup hitter, Weaver hit .334, knocked in 25 runs and banged out four doubles and two home runs.

Bryce Porter, Jr, Avon Grove

The Avon Grove junior led the Red Devils with a .400 batting average and a .514 on-base percentage while cracking two home runs and 26 hits.

Dylan DeMarco, West Chester Rustin

The best fielder in the Ches-Mont American Division, DeMarco also hit.403 with 27 hits and 12 RBI’s.

FIRST TEAM OUTFIELDERS

Chuck Andress, Jr, Malvern Prep

Andress was a big cog in the potent Friar attack hitting .398 with 33 hits and 23 RBI.

Chris Newell, Sr, Malvern Prep

Newell was the best player in the Inter-Academic League, hitting .393 with 33 hits, 12 doubles and four home runs. Newell will be attending the University of Virginia in the fall.

Brendan O’Donnell, Sr, Great Valley

Although O’Donnell was pitched around most of the season, the Patriots’ senior hit a lofty .412 with four home runs and five doubles. O’Donnell will be attending Rider University in the fall.

FIRST TEAM DESIGNATED HITTER

Mitch Ballint, Jr, Kennett

A very good defensive catcher, Ballint also hit a lusty .436 with 28 hits and an OBP of .529.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Mark Aquilante, Devon Prep

The veteran Devon Prep coach took a roster of mainly underclassmen and competed very well against larger schools in the tough Philadelphia Catholic League, before winning the District 12 Class 2A championship and sweeping four straight PIAA games to capture the Tide’s second state title in the last five years. Aquilante’s team played small ball flawlessly and was always very well-prepared.
