Radnor battles its way into state tennis semis

Radnor’s boys tennis team keeps finding ways to win.

Much like its win over Hershey in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A team tournament, the Raiders needed a tiebreaker to beat Cathedral Prep, 3-2, in the quarterfinals at the Hershey Racquet Club Friday.

This time, it was the second doubles team of Ethan Lee and Luigi Giacomucci who provided the decisive point with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Johnny Kretzing and Evan Rowane. The victory sends the Raiders into Saturday’s semifinals against District 1 champ Unionville, a 4-1 winner over Shady Side Academy, at 11:30 a.m.

If Radnor wins that match, it will take on the winner of the match between Fox Chappel and Great Valley for the state title at 5:30.

Alex Weiss rebounded for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Davis Estes at third doubles. Chris Rinehart and Colton Markowitz downed Jon Horstman and Corbin Glance, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 at first doubles.
