Mercury Boys Tennis Roundup: PAC teams fall in District 1 doubles

Pioneer Athletic Conference teams had a rough time on the first day of the District 1 boys tennis doubles tournament Friday.

Only one of the four PAC teams — Spring-Ford, two from Methacton, Pope John Paul II — made it out of the opening round. And that entry, the Rams’ duo of Malchu Pascual and Adit Jain, saw their foray ended in the second round of Class AAA competition.

Pascual and Jain, the PAC’s runners-up one week ago, rebounded for a 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Quakertowns’ Zach Pernia and Andrew Miller. In their next match, however, Pascual/Jain were topped by Wissahickon’s Andrew Tran and Vidat Makwana 6-2, 6-1.

The PAC’s doubles champs, Adam Zhang and Harsha Santhanam, fell to Conestoga’s Jack Ginter and Stephen Le 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).  The other Warrior tandem, Aaron Zhang and Krishna Pillutla, extended Neshaminy’s Ben Dunn and Ethan Ackerman to three sets in a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 verdict.

In Class AA play, Pope John Paul II’s team of Tommy Rutkowski and J.T. Collins lost to New Hope’s Caleb Burrows and Laslo Madarasz 6-1, 6-4. The bracket champion was Lower Moreland’s Josh Arno and Mihir Ram, winners of the final with Burrows/Madarasz 6-1, 6-3.
