Pascual delayed but still in running for PAC singles tournament repeat

ROYERSFORD >> It’s the only thing that could delay Malchu Pascual’s bid for a second Pioneer Athletic Conference boys tennis championship.

The elements.

Pascual breezed through Friday’s early-round action at Spring-Ford, following a first-round bye with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Methacton’s Harsha Santanam. The Ram junior was in command of his quarterfinal duel with Perkiomen Valley’s Will Ye, winning the first set 6-1 and leading the second 4-1 before the match was suspended.

Pascual and Ye will come back 9 a.m. Saturday to complete their match and determine who fills out the other semifinal-round pairing. Ye had gone three sets in his opener with Owen J. Roberts’ Sam Savage and topped Boyertown’s Tony Xanthopoulos in straight sets to reach the quarters.

The quarterfinal round match already set pits OJR’s Jason Sawicki against Phoenixville’s Josh Starczewski. PV’s Aaron Fry, a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Upper Perkiomen’s Ian Costanzo in the quarterfinals, will await the outcome of the Pascual/Ye duel.
