Main Line wrap-up: Shipley lacrosse earns first-ever win against GA

The Shipley School boys’ lacrosse team defeated host Germantown Academy, 12-9, Tuesday. The win marks the first win ever for the Gators over GA in Shipley’s nearly 40 year history of playing lacrosse.
A balanced offense led by junior Henry Reed with three goals helped tip the scales in Shipley’s favor. Transition play goals from junior Luke Grayum (three goals, two assists) and junior Josh Gallia (two goals, two assists) sealed the deal for the Gators.
Sophomore Jake McCarthy was strong at the face off X, winning 13 face offs.
Solid team defense from senior Spencer Dee, junior Hunter Gallo, sophomore TJ McCabe, sophomore Egan Butala, junior Tom Kim, freshman Cam Light, junior Tyler Drake and junior Dean Maner helped guide the Gator offense back on track, behind sophomore goalie Nate Yis (nine saves).

Girls’ lacrosse
Academy of Notre Dame defeated Penn Charter, 13-6, Tuesday. Hannah Gillespie produced four goals, Maggie O’Brien and Riley Gillin three each to lift Notre Dame to the triumph. Georgie Gorelick added two goals, Claire Gola one goal, one assist, four ground balls and seven draw controls.
The Irish defeated Germantown Academy, 13-11, April 5. The Irish were led by Hannah Gillespie (four goals), Hanna Bodner (two goals, three draw controls), Maggie O’Brien (three goals, three ground balls, three draw controls, two caused turnovers), Caitlyn Mullen (three assists) and Quinn Sullivan (11 saves).
Agnes Irwin defeated Springside Chestnut Hill, 16-4, Tuesday, as Natalie Pansini moved into the 200-point club Tuesday with a pair of goals,  Pansini also won three draw controls for the Owls. Marissa White registered four goals and an assist, and Emily Wills tallied three goals and two assists for the Owls. Natalie Corkran scored twice.
The Owls defeated Lawrenceville, 14-10, April 6. The Owls were led by Marissa White (six goals, four draw controls, two ground balls), Natalie Pansini (three goals, three caused turnovers, four draw controls, four ground balls) and goalie Paige Crowther (10 saves).
Archbishop Carroll (4-2) defeated Lansdale Catholc, 19-2, Tuesday. Alex Amonte had two goals for Carroll, and Lisa Dellarata had two assists. Eighteen different Patriots scored at least one goal for Carroll.
The Patriots defeated St. Huberts, 16-3, April 4. Amber Germer and Melissa Hewitt each scored two goals, and 12 other Patriots scored one goal each.
Conestoga defeated Haverford High, 14-4, Tuesday. For the Pioneers, Cam Evitts scored six goals and won seven draw controls, and Rachel Clark tallied five goals. Goalie Sam Centofane recorded 11 saves.
Epsicopal Academy defeated Scotland U19, 21-5, Tuesday. Devon Whitaker scored five goals and won four draw controls, and Sarah Groark added four goals and one assist for the Churchwomen. Caroline Burt chipped in three goals and six assists and Izzy Rohr collected her 100th caused turnover.
The Churchowmen defeated Agnes Irwin, 13-10, April 4, getting six goals and 10 draw controls from Olivia Dirks. Isabelle Rohr won eight draw controls for EA.
Harriton (6-1, 4-1) defeated Lower Merion, 19-1, Tuesday. The Rams were led by Alex Schwab (three goals), Katelin Williams (four goals) and Emily Stewart (three goals, five draw controls, three ground balls).
The Rams coasted to a 17-5 non league win over Central Bucks East April 6. It was a day for 4s as four Rams scored four goals each (Katelin Williams, Allie Schwab, Lucy Dwyer and Maddie Henderson) while Schwab added four assists and Henderson and Emily Stewart added four draw controls.
Haverford High lost to Conestoga, 14-4, Tuesday. For the Fords, Willa Hetznecker scored two goals and dished out one assist.
The Fords defeated Mount St. Joseph’s, 9-7, April 6, led by Mia Ciancio (three goals, two assists, three draw controls, four ground balls), Willa Hetznecker (four goals), Carly Gannon (two goals, two assists, five draw controls) and goalie Lauren Johns (15 saves).
Radnor defeated Strath Haven, 20-7, Tuesday. Cate Cox collected four goals and three assists, Kate Hartnett three goals to spark the Raiders. Tori DiCarlo contributed two goals, one assist and eight draw controls. The Raiders also received two goals apiece from Sydney Wilson (assist), Carly Wilson (assist) and Sarah Nelson. Molly May added one goal and three assists.
Villa Maria Academy defeated Gwynedd Mercy, 16-8, April 5. The Hurricanes (6-0, 4-0) were led by Margie Carden (six goals), Bridget Finley (four goals) and Abby Walheim (two goals, eight assists).

Boys’ lacrosse
Conestoga defeated Haverford High, 10-2, Tuesday. Brendan Murphy had a hat trick, and PJ Hewitt and Ian Kim combined to win 12 of 16 faceoffs.
Harriton defeated Methacton, 9-5, April 6. The Rams were led by Brian Stewart (two goals, six ground balls), Ben Schall (two goals, one assist), Michael Stewart (two goals), Leo Wackerman (two goals), Evan Prince (won nine of 14 faceoffs), Robbie DePetris (eight saves), Luke Fink (two caused turnovers, two ground balls), Nate Peterson (two caused turnovers) and Aiden Mckenna (one caused turnover, three ground balls).
Shipley defeated West Chester Rustin, 15-14, April 6. The Gators (5-0) won in the final seconds on a goal by Luke Grayum (two goals, eight assists). Other Shipley contributors included Braeden Lange (four goals), Josh Gallia (three goals) and Randall Brown (three goals).

Baseball
Conestoga lost to Radnor, 8-5, April 7. Blaise Rantanen and Christian Moesler led the way for Conestoga offensively, each collecting two hits on the day. Rantanen also collected two RBIs on the day.
The Pioneers lost to Lower Merion, 11-2, April 3. Offensively, Copnestoga was led by Eric Anderson who went 2-for-3.
Devon Prep defeated Bishop McDevitt, 7-5, April 3. Thomas Cunningham took the win for the Tide, surrendering one run on no hits over 2 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking one. Jack Eshleman and Walsh each had multiple hits for Devon.
Friends’ Central defeated Friends’ Select, 16-1, Tuesday. Senior Ben Kollender was 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, sophomore Justin Rubin was 2-for-2 with a double a single and two walks (four runs scored) and three RBIs and junior Leo Burman was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored to pace the Phoenix offense. Ninth grader Luke Buscaglia went the distance striking out six while walking only one and allowing just two hits for his first win of the season. Senior Sam Pendrak was also 2-for-2 at the plate.
The Phoenix defeated Shipley, 7-0, April 6. For the Phoenix (7-2, 2-0), Justin Rubin allowed just four singles over 5 1/3 innings along with striking out six. Johnny Fitzpatrick came in and closed the door striking out three over the final 1 2/3 innings. Ben Kollender and Leo Burman led the offensive attack going a combined 3-for-6 with four RBIs.
A few days earlier, the Phoenix defeated Moorestown Friends, 11-0. Starting pitcher Justin Rubin and relievers Luke Buscaglia and Caden Carlin limited Moorestown to just two hits. Ben Kollender hit a three-run home run to right centerfield in the first inning, and Leo Burman and Sam Burman also provided clutch hits to help break open the game.
Lower Merion defeated Haverford High, 4-3, in nine innings Monday, with Alec Deegan hitting the game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. Kyle Patlove was credited with the victory for Lower Merion, lasting three innings, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out four and walking none. Nick Rocco, Spence Millrood, and Patlove each managed two hits for Lower Merion.
The Aces defeated Conestoga, 11-2, April 3. Winning pitcher Casey Murphy allowed only one run and struck out seven batters. Kyle Patlove had five RBIs.

Softball
Academy of Notre Dame defeated Germantown Academy, 13-2, Tuesday. Bianca Rosato clocked a three-run homer and slugged a two-run single. Megan McKay added a two-run single and Grace Jackson chipped in with a pair of hits. Winning pitcher Caroline Adams had a double for the Irish.
Harriton defeated Lower Merion, 13-1, April 4. Ava Paternoster, Kiley Marsh, Jessica Ermi, Anna Reisner and Julia Ermi each hit doubles, and Jessica Ermi smashed a home run. The Rams got fine defense from Kira Farmer, Anna Walsh, Ava Paternoster, Jessica Ermi and Xochitl Krumbiegel.
The Rams defeated Penncrest, 16-15, April 3, getting home runs from Anna Reisner and Ava Paternoster. Anna Walsh had four RBIs, and the defense was led by Kiley Marsh, Xochitl Krumbiegel and Anna Walsh.

Boys’ tennis
Episcopal Academy defeated Penn Charter, 4-3, Tuesday, winning all of its doubles matches in straight sets. Doubles winners were Alec Austin/Danie Hu (first doubles), Petey Dugery/Niki Lavu (second), Robbie Copit/Adam Oliva (third) and Dhilan Lavu/Colin Kick (fourth).
Haverford School defeated Malvern Prep, 7-0, Tuesday. Nikhil Chakraborty won at first singles, and Sunny Yu (second singles) and Cole Wolf (third singles) both won in straight sets.
The Fords defeated Hill School, 6-1, Monday. The Fords’ Nikhil Chakraborty won first singles in straight sets, and teammate Sunny Yu won third singles in straight sets.
Malvern Prep lost to Westtown, 3-2, April 3, winning first doubles (Patrick Murphy and Sean Upadhyay) and second doubles (Ryan Upadhyay and Dan Harrington).
Radnor defeated Penncrest, 7-0, Tuesday, winning all seven matches in straight sets. Singles winners were Max Safanov (first singles), Garrett Spillerman (second) and Alex Weiss (third).
The Raiders defeated Springfield, 7-0, April 4, winning all seven matches in straight sets. Singles winners were Garrett Spillerman (first), Alex Weiss (second) and Ethan Lee (third).
Shipley defeated Friends Select, 5-0, Tuesday, winning all of its matches in straight sets. Singles winners were Samson Sands (first singles), Sebastian Fras (second) and Maxwell Homans (third).
The Gators defeated Germantown Academy, 4-1, April 3, getting fine play from Andrew Brose (third singles) and Isaac Keiser.

Track & field
Radnor (girls) had some fine performances at the Delco Relays at Haverford High School April 6. The sprint medley relay of Mariah Smith, Lucy Minning, Grace Frigerio and Keara Seasholtz placed second with a time of 4:19.1. Seasholtz, Frigerio, and Minning later teamed with Lucy Hederick to finished fourth in the 1600 meter relay. The 6400 meter relay of Isabelle Breedveld, Seneca Farhy, Hederick, and Bridget Dougherty placed third. Zoe Metzger took second place in the discus and combined with Abby Cooper to finish second in the javelin relay. Mab Rongione was second in the pole vault.

Golf
Agnes Irwin defeated Springside Chestnut Hill, 261-276, April 4 at Gulph Mills. The Owls were led by Maura Boyle (44) and Anne Curran (45).

Crew
Agnes Irwin had some fine performances at the 4th Manny Flick Regatta April 7. Freshman Caroline O’Mara, in her first ever race in the Novice Single category, rowed to a dominant victory, 25 seconds ahead of nearest rival Conestoga. The Freshmen Quad of Chloe Saulnier, Ashlyn Phelan, Gioanna Zhao, and Julia van der Zwan finished in second place behind Ridgewood with a time of 5:42.
Competing in the JV Double category was Eliza Pendergast and Ella Haines who finished in second place 12 seconds behind the winning crew. Seniors Emma Bonner and Jazmyn Knight had a clean race in the Varsity Double finishing in fifth place with a time of 6:29. Racing once again in the Varsity Single was Peyton Bond who won the event for the second week in a row.
Back racing together in the Lightweight Double were Senior Anisah Thomas and Junior Madeline Briddell. The lightweight double mounted a serious charge in the last 500 meters of the race but narrowly came up short to finished second to the crew from Germantown Friends. Also finishing in second place was the Lightweight Quad entry of Shreya Kalra, Enshalla Dunlop, Ayanna Dunlop, and Katie McGovern with a time of 6:05.
Baldwin School entered its second race of the season at the 4th Manny Flick/Horvat Series Regatta. The Varsity Quad (bow, Ava Rosenberger, 2, Stephanie Hulme, 3, Jane Bai, stroke, Katie Cappola) placed fourth overall with a time of 5:48.06. The Lightweight Varsity Quad (bow, Helen Ji, 2, Jessica Shen, 3, Sammy Baron, stroke, Mimi Salgado) placed third overall with a time of 6:11.02.
Two JV Doubles raced for Baldwin. Jessica Zhu (bow) and Jasmine Bell (stroke) placed fourth in their flight and sixth out of 17 crews with a time of 6:16.44. The combination of Grace Kirwan (bow) and Jada Williams (stroke) placed fourth in their flight and eighth overall with a time of 6:21.16.
The Freshman Quad (bow, Ainsley Steele, 2, Ryan Murphy, 3, Sarah Ying, stroke, Megan Magee) placed 5th in their flight with a time of 6:16.94. Overall they finished seventh. The Novice Quad (bow, Amy Erskine, 2, Katie McMahon, 3, Elina Emami, stroke, Avika Pande) finished fourth overall with a time of 8:25.46.
Episcopal Academy had a solid showing at the 4th Manny Flick Regatta April 7. The Girls Novice 4+ which was comprised of Ashley Tang (stroke), Grace Bomberger, Emmie O’Neill, Ella Jordan and Julia Lindblad (cox) placed first in their heat with a time of 6:03.85 and first overall for the event. The Girls JV 8+, which was comprised of stroke Lily Haupt, Lacey Rivera, Mickey Rymal, Natalie Johnston, Julia Ruston, Ruth Engelman, Mary Cipperman, Mary Grace Konopka, and cox, Hollis du Pont placed first in their heat with a time of 5:28.09. The Girls Varsity 4+ which was comprised of Brooke Kraftson in stroke, Morgan Gantt, Margot LeRoux, Allison Lee, and cox Alyssa Sheffy finished second in their heat with a time of 5:52.85.
William Antczak and Ned Meisel competed for Episcopal in the Novice 2X and finished third in their heat with a time of 6:35.32. The Boys JV 4 + had a photo finish race with less than .01 second separating the top 2 boats and .1 second separating the top 3 boats in the heat. Episcopal Academy’s boat placed second in this competitive heat with a time of 5:47.82 and was composed of Jimmy Bruder (stroke), Aedan Yohannan, Glay Yang, Christian Cerone and cox, Natalie Horbowy. Nick Peyton and Dhruv Raman competed in a Varsity 2X and finished third in their heat with a time of 6:23.71. The Boys Varsity 8 +, which included Ian Reape in stroke, Owen Maier, Billy Stavropoulos, Peter Woodville, Chase Anderson, Arya Venugopalan, Will Konopka, Charlie Barton, and cox Juliana DiCarlo, finished fifth in its heat with a time of 4:43.50.
