Mercury Track Roundup: Hill School boys, girls win own relays

They had a good time showing their stuff Saturday.

The Hill School boys and girls track teams were the dominant teams from the annual Hill Relays, both winning their respective divisions. The Hill boys scored 114 points to beat out runner-up Mercersburg Academy (96), and the girls also outran Mercersburg 126-104.

The hosts set new meet and school records along the way. Sadie McCaleb threw the javelin 128-4 to become the program’s record holder, and she teamed with Alexia Haas for a 217-4 that ranked as a new meet standard.

Other school records were set by the girls’ 4×800 relay of Chevelle Obuobi-Donkor, Lauren Yingling, Bella Basile and Olivia Tullman (10:14.73) and the boys’ distance medley foursome of Jamie Olson, Owen Scott, Shahzaib Umer and Bennett Booth-Genthe (10:47.53). The girls’ 4×800 relay clocking was another meet record.

The Hill’s Jane McCarter had the best throws in the girls’ shot put (28-9½) and discus (83-2) while Lauren Fudala (high jump, 4-8) and Kiki Lange (pole vault, 8-0) also led in the field. On the boys’ side, Vince Ho (shot put, 40-5½), Derek Schmaeling (javelin, 129-1), Scott Owen (high jump, 6-0) Yeob Kim (long jump, 21-7¾) and Tim Youndt (triple jump, 42-4½) had the Hill’s top efforts in the field.
