Jelus’ last-second goal lifts Marple Newtown

Luke Jelus scored for Marple Newtown in the nick of time.

Jelus’ fourth and final goal in the last minute of regulation gave the Tigers a 9-8 win over Lower Merion Thursday.

Zach Baroni and Vince Terra recorded two goals each for MN (2-4). C.J. Lane added a goal and an assist, while Marlon Weathers dished out four assists. Liam Ferry and Dominic Mandell split time in net and made three saves each.

Elsewhere in the Central League:

Haverford 7, Penncrest 6 >> John Schivert netted the game-winning goal with 14 seconds to go in overtime. Jackson Gowie notched a hat trick for the Fords.

T.J. Sims scored three goals and Brennan Kaut chipped in with two for the Lions (3-3, 2-2). Shayne Stevens stopped eight shots between the posts.

Springfield 14, Upper Darby 0 >> The Cougars scored early and often in a trouncing of the Royals.

Colin Hopkins and Jake Kuzmick led the way with hat tricks, while Jack Clark pitched in with two goals and an assist.

Conestoga 14, Strath Haven 13 >> The Pioneers scored the game-winner with 27 seconds left in overtime.

Ethan Belville registered six goals and an assist for the Panthers. Wade Mutz, Matt Faggioli and Ibo Pio each tallied twice. Goalie Vinny Palermo finished with 21 saves.

In nonleague action:

Interboro 7, Upper Merion 5 >> Nick Mormando led the charge for the Bucs, posting four goals and an assist. Mike Brown had a stellar all-around game with two goals, three assists and six ground balls. AJ Porreca won 11 faceoffs and scooped up 12 ground balls, and goalie Connor Evans made six saves.

Aidan Shandley and Brett Gougler each added a goal and an assist. Jack Spence, Rob O’Brien, JZ Grafstrom and Ryan O’Connor tallied a goal apiece. Zach Robinson handed out a pair of assists.
