Weathers is fine as Marple Newtown hangs on vs. Lower Merion

Marlon Weathers accounted for two Marple Newtown touchdowns as the Tigers held on for a 21-20 win over Lower Merion.

The Aces (0-3, 0-2 Central) made things interesting. With the Tigers (2-1) clinging to a 7-6 in the fourth quarter, Weathers sprinted 43 yards to the end zone.

Lower Merion quarterback Matt O’Connor connected with Marcus Green in the back of the end zone to trim MN’s lead to two points. Andrew Cantwell made a big tackle on the two-point conversion attempt.

Marple quarterback Brian Joslin ran from 27 yards out to make it a 21-12 game. But Lower Merion kept answering. O’Connor scored on a keeper and the Aces added two points to pull within 21-20 with 1:40 to play. Marple then recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock for their second win of the year.

The Tigers (2-1, 1-1) host undefeated Garnet Valley (3-0) next Friday.
