Zweier’s late goal earns Strath Haven dramatic win

It was a day for drama in the Central League as Gianna Zweier scored in the 78th minute to give Strath Haven a 1-0 triumph over Marple Newtown.

Goalie Claire Wolgast made three saves to post the shutout for the Panthers (3-0, 1-0).

Mackenzie Hilden stopped six shots in goal for the Tigers.

In other Central League action:

Penncrest 1, Springfield 1 >> Goalie Shannon Cutcliff was the hero for the host Cougars with 13 saves in a double-overtime draw with the Lions.

Emily Gormley leveled the score for Springfield when she put home a great pass from Julie Schickling in the 76th minute.

Kara Mullaney gave Penncrest a 1-0 lead at halftime. Bryn McLaughlin turned back four shots in goal.

Conestoga 3, Harriton 0 >> Sydney Sloan, Emily Wertz and Caitlin Donovan scored to help the Pioneers bounce back from a tough 3-2 loss to Rustin.

In the Catholic League:

Archbishop Carroll 2, John W. Hallahan 0 >> Paige Mastripolito and Kelliann Matey provided the offense, and Nicolette Cashin stood tall in goal to help the Patriots (1-2, 1-0) open league play with a win.

Mastripolito and Matey scored one goal each, and Cashin made four saves to record the shutout.
