Upper Moreland’s fast start too much for Upper Dublin

UPPER MORELAND >> Upper Moreland made hay early, and Upper Dublin was stuck sucking on the weeds.

That was the story Wednesday night when the host Bears topped the Cardinals, 42-28, in a Suburban One League American Conference wrestling match at Upper Moreland High School.

The Bears got falls from Chris Walker (126), Artie Hunt (132) Tyler Weimer (145) and Tyler Patterson to build a 30-0 lead, then coasted to the finish line.

The Bears snatched a quick 12-0 lead on falls by Chris Walker and Artie Hunt at 126 and 132 respectively, then increased the bulge to 15-0 on John Richter’s decision victory at 138.

A Tyler Weimer stick at 145 increased the Bears lead to 21-0 and Tyler Patterson made 27-0 with a stick at 152.

Upper Moreland’s Hunter Williams won by decision at 160 to stretch the hosts’ lead to 30-0 before Cardinal Mason Novack took a decision at 170 to stop the Bears in their tracks.

Upper Moreland would win only three more matches the rest of the way, but had more than enough points to claim victory.
