Wilson scores 26, Upper Merion rolls past Upper Perkiomen

UPPER MERION >> Clare Wilson knew Upper Perkiomen was not the best team in the Pioneer Athletic Conference.

But Tuesday night at the Vikings gymnasium, the Indians were little more than fodder for their hosts, who tore up the visitors, 64-18, behind 26 points from Wilson and 15 from Maddie Harvey.

The Vikings led from the jump, taking a 12-2 lead after a quarter, then expanding that lead to 24-10 by halftime.

But the home team really dumped its load on the visitors in the second half, blowing out the lead to 48 points at one point before settling for the blowout win.

Wilson said the Vikings knew Upper Perk was not a tough team, but she didn’t realize they could be handled so easily.

“It could have been a blowout from the beginning,” Wilson said. “We knew they weren’t the strongest team in the league, and that all we had to do was play our game and we could beat them.”

The Vikings beat their guests in all facets of the game, taking the aforementioned 10-point lead after one quarter and then extending it to 14 by halftime and by 27 points after three.

Wilson had 21 of her points after halftime as the Vikings took command and didn’t let up.

Sierra Kelly led the Tribe with seven points.
