PHOTOS: Pennsbury vs. Cheltenham in Pete & Jameer Nelson Classic

CHESTER, Pa. – The Pennsbury Boys Basketball team held off a late rally by Suburban One League (SOL) American Conference rival Cheltenham in the 12th annual Pete & Jameer Nelson Classic Thursday afternoon, Dec. 29, 2016 at Widener University, in Chester.

The Falcons were led by seniors Addison Howard, who had a team-high 17 points, Mark Flagg who added 13 points before fouling out midway through the fourth quarter. Classmate Joey Monaghan came through with a pair of critical field goals in the waning moments of the fourth quarter and Howard canned four straight foul shots to help seal the win.

Treyvon Pitts led the Panthers with 19 points.


The action continued with Philadelphia Catholic League rival Saint Joseph’s Prep getting past Ches-Mont League rival Bishop Shanahan 56-45. Atlantic City toppled Inter-Ac rival Episcopal Academy, of Newtown Square, 55-51, and LaSalle outpaced Carlisle, 73-66.

In an interstate battle between Catholic schools, Archbishop Ryan nipped Saint Thomas More from Wilmington, 52-50. Izaiah Brockington paced the Raiders with 22 points, six rebounds and four steals and Matiss Kulackovskis canned a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left to seal the win for AR.

In the nightcap, SOL National Conference rival Abington held off a late rally by Chester to win, 53-50.

The action in the 12th annual Pete & Jameer Nelson Classic continues at noon today at Widener (see full schedule below).

Pennsbury takes on 2016 PIAA 4A quarterfinalist Chester at 7 p.m. and Abington battles state AAA champ Neumann-Goretti at 8:45.
