Strath Haven has a field day to edge Penncrest

In cold, drizzly conditions Wednesday, the Penncrest and Strath girls track teams produced racing that was plenty sizzling.

The two teams went race-for-race in the tri-meet, with the Panthers edging out the Lions by a 77-73 margin in a tight race.

Both teams also bested Ridley, Strath Haven by a 117-33 margin and Penncrest by a 110-40 spread.

Strath Haven’s point total was buoyed by 1-2 finishes over Penncrest in three of the field events. Maura Gibbs won the long and triple jumps, while Rachel Vresilovic claimed the discus and the javelin. Natalie Kent (shot put) and Claire Van Duyne (pole vault) also chipped in wins for the Panthers.

On the track, Maddie Forbes won the 800, Maia Mesyngier prevailed in the 3,200 and Semaje Harper claimed the 100 hurdles for Haven. Penncrest was boosted by Alicia Collier and Briana Artis, who won the 100 and 200, respectively, then combined on the Lions’ victorious 4 x 100 and 4 x400 relays. Mariah Kozub (300 hurdles) and Katie Arbogast (400) each paired an individual win with a relay triumph. Diana Dunn also won the 1,600.

Ridley’s only win came via the 4 x 800 relay of Brianna Wallen, Kelly McGeehan, Senna Ohlsson and Jessica Higgins.
