Viscusi picks right up where she left off

Alex Viscusi wasted no time doing what she does best: Hitting bombs and striking out opposing batters.

The 2014 Daily Times Player of the Year collected four hits, including a grand slam, as she led the Episcopal Academy softball team to a pair of wins in Disney World Saturday to kick off the new season.

Episcopal Academy downed Sidwell Friends (D.C.), 10-0, before claiming a 7-4 decision over Paramus (N.J.).

In the opener, Viscusi went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and five RBIs. She also pitched three no-hit innings for the victory. Fellow EA senior Taylor Long pitched spotless softball in relief of Viscusi and went 3-for-3 at the dish.

Sophie Walker, seeing her first varsity action, made two spectacular running catches in center field to highlight EA’s 7-4 win over Paramus. First-time catcher Brooke Royer excelled behind the plate and Viscusi fanned seven batters in a comple-game performance. Reilly Wright smacked a double for the Churchwomen.
