Presenting All-Main Line fall 2013 girls volleyball teams

The fall 2013 Main Line high school girls’ volleyball season featured a number of strong teams. Academy of Notre Dame was undefeated InterAc champions as well as PAISSA tournament champions, and were undefeated in their last 14 matches of the season. Agnes Irwin, finished second in the PAISSA tournament. Villa Maria Academy (18-3) was the AACA regular-season and playoff champions, and placed second at the PIAA Class AA District One tournament. Sacred Heart was the District One Class A runnerup, while Archbishop Carroll and Haverford High enjoyed winning seasons.The All-Main Line high school girls’ volleyball teams are selected by the coaches. Because Main Line Media News covers 19 high schools, the Main Line Media News sports staff limits the number of spots available to first team, second team and honorable mention — but follows the priority of coaches’ selections.What follows are the fall 2013 All-Main Line high school girls’ volleyball teams:


Colleen Donnelly, Academy of Notre Dame — Senior middle and co-captain was first team All-InterAc for the second year in a row. Set school record for blocks in a season (144). Though she missed five early-season matches, when she returned to the court, the Irish were 15-1.Alexander Quigley, Academy of Notre Dame — Senior outside hitter and co-captain was AllInterAc first team for second year in a row. Had 161 kills, the highest season total in team history, in 22 matches.Alexandra Hammarskjold, Agnes Irwin — Senior outside hitter and captain, a first team All-Inter selection and the Owls’ MVP, had 103 kills, 21 aces, 11 blocks and 38 digs in 17 matches.Sarah Layfield, Archbishop Carroll — Junior outside hitter, a first team All-Catholic League selection, was the runner-up in the Catholic League Most Valuable Player voting.

Emily McCann, Archbishop Carroll — Sophomore setter, a first team All-Catholic League selection, was one of the key reasons behind the Patriots’ success this winter.

Nicole Lindsay, Conestoga – Senior outside hitter, a second team All-Central League selection, was the Pioneers’ MVP. Had 162 kills, 200 digs and 29 aces in 24 matches.

Arden Vizzard, Haverford High – Senior libero/outside was the Fords’ MVP and a second team All-Central League selection, as well as an All-District One Class AAA third team pick. Noted as a controlled player, she came up with 101 digs and 50 kills despite missing two weeks with a concussion.

Katie Lane, Haverford High – Senior setter and court captain, this second team All-Central League and second team All-Delco selection was the Fords’ leader in assists (337 in 18 games) and came up with 117 digs.

Olivia King, Lower Merion — Junior outside hitter, a first team All-Central League selection, led the team in kills with 329. LM’s offensive MVP also had 262 digs, 38 aces and 29 blocks.

Emma Aldaya, Merion Mercy Academy – Senior libero, a Class AA all-state pick as well as first team All-District One and All-AACA, led the state in dig percentage, surpassing 2,000 digs for her career. Was second on the Golden Bears in assists.

Meghan Cavanaugh, Sacred Heart – Senior libero and captain was the Lions’ MVP, was in the top 25 nationally for digs and received All-Delco honors.

Shae Murphy, Villa Maria Academy — Senior libero, the Hurricanes’ MVP, was an Class AA all-state selection for the second year in a row, as well as All-District One (Class AA) and All-AACA. Led the Hurricanes in digs for the second year in a row and was Chester County Player of the Year.Danielle Hillman, Villa Maria Academy – Senior middle hitter was an Class AA all-state selection, as well as All-District One (Class AA) and All-AACA for the second year in a row. Led the Hurricanes in kills and total blocks.

Agnes Irwin — Emma Joughin, senior setter; Julie Jemmot, junior middle.

Archbishop Carroll — Sabrina Noel, junior middle hitter; Victoria Glammer, senior libero.Baldwin School — Sarah Zarsky, junior setter.Conestoga — Elizabeth Lawton, sophomore outside hitter; Chase Hinterlieter, senior middle hitter; Becky Simonetti, senior middle hitter.

Harriton — Nadirah Anderson, senior middle.

Haverford High – Bridget Newman, senior middle; Ellie Marshall, sophomore outside.

Lower Merion – Jessica Larkin, junior outside hitter.

Merion Mercy Academy – Marissa Abbonizio, senior outside hitter; Allison Stranick, freshman outside hitter.

Radnor — Sarah Kopp, senior setter; Natcheli Gomes, junior outside hitter.

Sacred Heart – Kerri Corcoran, sophomore middle back; Lauren Killroy, sophomore middle back.

Villa Maria Academy — Elle Salinas, senior outside hitter; Katherine Miller, junior setter; Kaleigh Oates, sophomore outside.


Academy of Notre Dame — Kristen Karlson, junior middle; Ashley Haas, sophomore defensive specialist.

Archbishop Carroll – Sam Conboy, senior outside hitter; Rachel Lyons, senior middle hitter.

Lower Merion — Vivan Klotz, sophomore setter.

Merion Mercy Academy – Gabrielle Squilla, senior middle back; Rebecca Purcell, junior setter.

Sacred Heart – Kellilynn Murray, junior outside hitter/defensive specialist; Emily Arriviello, senior middle back; Ally Schell, sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist.

Villa Maria Academy — Allie Wisniewski, senior middle hitter.
