A storied win streak came to an end Wednesday … but not without a fight.
Boyertown had strung together more than 33 wrestling victories in Pioneer Athletic Conference dual matches since February of 2013. But that run was halted by Owen J. Roberts in its friendly confines, 37-33.
Ryan Resnick scored the ultimate streak-breaking win, an 11-4 decision at 160 that gave Roberts (3-0, 11-1) the victory with one weight class left to contest. Though both teams each took seven weights, OJR got bonus points in six of its victories — four pins and two technical falls — while Boyertown (3-1, 15-2) did that only five times.
Luke Resnick (120), Cole Meredith (138), Daniel Mancini (145) and Alejandro Acosta (285) scored the Owen J. falls, with Nick Duliakas (195) and Antonio Petrucelli (132) scoring tech-falls. Roberts was the last PAC team to beat Boyertown in a league dual, back on Feb. 1 of 2013.
The Bears got pins from Matt Wilde (113) and David Campbell (126), a Hunter Vogels technical fall at 170 and Jacob Miller’s major decision at 182. Chase Stehman (106) and Evan Mortimer (152) posted one-point decisions, and Elijah Jones was awarded a forfeit at 220.
Both teams will be in action Thursday for the opening round of the District 1 Class AAA Duals Tournament. Fourth-seeded OJR will face Coatesville at West Chester Rustin, with top seed Boyertown taking on Neshaminy at Methacton.
Methacton 63, Norristown 6 >> Aided by six pins, the Warriors raced out to an easy victory over their Liberty Division foe.
The Warriors’ effort was highlighted by a pin by Tonee Ellis at 285 and two major decisions from Salaam McNair and Brendan Marion at 182 and 195, respectively. Andrew Balek scored a fall in 1:55 at 132 and Roman Moser scored a major decision at 145 before three consecutive pins from Bryce Reddington (152), Michael Blakemore (160; 33 seconds) and Jake Benarick (170).
Norristown’s Grant Rubin pinned his opponent in 2:42 at 132-pounds to secure the Eagles’ only win.
Spring-Ford 60, Perkiomen Valley 3 >> The Rams were fueled by four pins and a pair of technical falls on the way to a big PAC Liberty Division win over the Vikings.
Dirk Nugent (126), Oscar Granese (138), Michael Gradwell (160) and Chase Smith (182) had the drops for Spring-Ford, with Ben D’Arcangelo (152) and Brandon Meredith (120) adding tech-falls. They also got major decisions from Jonathan Westlake (145) and Matt LePore (285) while PV’s lone win came from Austin Rowley at 132.
Exeter 70, Daniel Boone 6 >> The Eagles scored six pins on the undermanned Blazers to roll up a dominating Berks Conference win.
Exeter also benefited from five forfeits, scoring 64 unanswered points. Boone got an opening decision from Stephen Spitko at 106 and Jesse Enck’s decision at 220.
Hill goes 1-2 >> The Blues saw mixed results from the four-school outing they hosted, beating Peddie School (48-36) but falling to Episcopal Academy (48-36) and Wyoming Seminary (60-9).
Kyle Gorant was the Hill’s biggest winner, going 3-0 with two pins wrestling at 132 and 138. In their match with Peddie, the Blues scored seven pins to offset five forfeits.
