Council Rock South captures Suburban One National League crown

BRISTOL TWP. – Council Rock South wrestling captured its 11th Suburban One National League (SOL) championship in the program’s 14-year history, defeating Truman 53-12 Feb. 3 on the Tigers’ home mat.

The Golden Hawks received pins from freshman Max Mendez (106 pounds), junior Zack Trampe (132) and classmate Joe Doyle (195). South also got major decisions from freshman Eric Woloshyn (126) and junior Riley Palmer (138). Winning by decision were sophomore Collin Waterman (113), senior Lucas Martoccio (145) and senior Brandon Kohn (220).

Truman gave away 18 points on three forfeits with seniors Alex Vossbein (160), Connor McAdams (285) and junior Dimitri Leupold (152) missing from the lineup.

South was missing sophomore Ben Radner (120), who was nursing an injury. A state qualifier a year ago, Radner will be back for this weekend’s District 1 Duals at Upper Dublin High School. So will seniors Keith Bennett (170), Nick Verdi (138) and Shane Flanagan (152/160), all of whom were given the night off.

While the Hawks (12-0 overall, 6-0 — SOL National) still have a league match next Tuesday at Bensalem and are hoping to go on to state duals, Truman (10-7, 4-3 — SOL) will be idle until the SOL National championships on Feb. 20 at Pennsbury.

After getting past Downingtown West 46-12 Jan. 28 in the opening round of D-1 Duals, South takes on Owen J. Roberts at 6 p.m. Friday at Upper Dublin.

If they win, the Hawks advance to face the winner of Pennridge-Downingtown East at 7:30 p.m. The final is set for 3 p.m. Saturday and could see South go up against top seed Boyertown. The Bears outpaced the Hawks in last year’s D-1 Duals championship.
