Cara Fabiano represents Bristol well in Phillies Carpenter Cup Softball Tournament

PHILADELPHIA – She may have been the lone player representing Lower Bucks County but Bristol Borough’s own Cara Fabiano came through in a big way for the Suburban One League/Bicentennial Athletic League (SOL/BAL) all-stars in the Phillies Carpenter Cup Softball Tournament that began June 19 at FDR Park.

In the tournament opener for the SOL/BAL that took place Tuesday, June 20 at the Phillies MLB Urban Youth Academy softball fields, Fabiano, a rising senior at Bristol High School, went 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. In the circle, she pitched three shutout innings of softball, unfortunately, in a 4-3 losing effort suffered at the hands of Mid-Penn.

Coming on in relief of North Penn rising senior Brittney Moyer, who surrendered three runs on six hits in one inning pitched, Fabiano tossed three scoreless frames while allowing three hits with no walks and one strikeout.

Springfield Township rising senior Mary Kate Smith surrendered a lone run on one hit in the bottom of the seventh inning and Mid-Penn outhit the locals 9-5 in the contest while the SOL/BAL committed three errors in the game.

Mid-Penn was forced to forfeit the win, however, due to a tournament rule which states that a pitcher can only work four innings in a seven-inning contest.

In game two, Fabiano, the starter for the SOL/BAL, surrendered five runs (four earned) on six hits in two innings pitched as the Bucks-Mont team fell 7-1 to New Jersey rival Tri-Cape. Emily Groarke, a rising senior at North Penn, led the locals, hitting 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

In game three, a 10-1 triumph that took place yesterday (Wednesday, June 21) and kept the SOL/BAL alive just a little bit longer, Fabiano hit 1-for-3 at the plate including a triple, a run scored and three RBIs. In the circle she relived CB West rising senior Angelina Sherba, who tossed four scoreless frames, and gave up a run on one hit while striking out one batter.

The SOL/BAL outhit Chester 10-6 in the contest and each team committed one error.

The end came in a Wednesday afternoon battle against the Lehigh Valley all-stars. The upstate rivals pounded out 15 runs on 11 hits in a mercy-rule shortened shutout win over the locals.

The starting pitcher in the contest, Fabiano tossed just 1.2 innings and recorded one of two hits in the battle for the SOL/BAL all-stars.
