Episcopal loss doesn’t diminish legacy
RADNOR — All season long, the Episcopal Academy softball team has never gone down without a fight. The latest example came Saturday in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association tournament title game against Inter-Ac rival Penn Charter.
Trailing by a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning, senior captain Alex Viscusi drew a one-out walk. On the first pitch to Taylor Long, Viscusi stole second, and would score on a two-out throwing error. But Viscusi’s determination wouldn’t keep the Quakers from earning a 2-1 tourney championship win.
“That’s how we came out every day,’ said Viscusi, who will be heading to Princeton in the fall. “It speaks volume about the character of the players. We came out every day as a team. It was never an individual effort. If someone got down we picked each other up. It’s true we never went down without a fight and that attitude allowed this team to win so many games.’
Viscusi was one of the leaders of an EA team that had eight seniors, and collectively they led the Churchwomen to the most wins (23) in one season, along with two Inter-Ac titles (2014 & 2015).
“It means a lot where we are now from the time we were freshmen,’ Viscusi said. “It’s been awesome to come home with wins and back to the school with medals and trophies but more importantly as seniors to make an impact on the younger kids. To see them progress and step up has been amazing to watch.’
