Presenting 2018 All-Main Line girls’ soccer team

The Main Line high school girls’ soccer scene featured many noteworthy teams this fall, particularly Central League and PIAA District 1 4A champion Conestoga (19-2-2).

In the Inter-Ac, Episcopal Academy captured the PAISAA state championship; while Baldwin School (16-5-1) advanced to the PAISAA state finals, and was ranked 12th in the state and 19th in the Mid-Atlantic Region by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

In the Central League, Harriton (11-6-1), Lower Merion (9-6-1) and Haverford High (12-9-2) each had a strong season.

In the Friends’ Schools League, Shipley (9-6-2, 6-3) also enjoyed a fine season. Barrack Hebrew Academy (13-3) won the Tri-County League title.

Villa Maria Academy advanced to the PIAA District 1 3A championship game.

The All-Main Line high school girls’ soccer teams are selected by the coaches. Because Main Line Media News covers 19 high schools, the Main Line Media News sports staff limits the number of spots available to first team, second team and honorable mention — but follows the priority of coaches’ selections.
What follows are the 2018 All-Main Line high school girls’ soccer teams:

FIRST TEAM

Paige Mastripolito, Archbishop Carroll – senior forward, a first team All-Delco and All-Catholic League selection, scored 14 goals and dished out 11 assists in 16 games.

Gia Vicari, Baldwin School – Senior forward is the school’s all-time leader in goals (81) and assists (41), with 24 game-winning goals. Georgetown commit is All-American and first team All-Inter-Ac pick. Considered a creative, dynamic and skilled playmaker with a dangerous shot from distance.

Lauren Bracken, Baldwin School – Senior defender, the Polar Bears’ MVP and a first team All-Inter-Ac pick, was instrumental in Baldwin recording 13 shutouts this fall. Considered an excellent one on one defender, strong tackler, skillful dribbler, fine passer and anticipates plays well.

Natalie Sgro, Baldwin School – Senior defender, a first team All-Inter-Ac pick, scored 11 goals as a left back this fall. College of Charleston commit is noted for her athleticism, speed and versatility, and can get forward on the dribble in the attack and make strong recovery runs to shut down counter attacks.

Caitlin Donovan, Conestoga – Junior midfielder/forward, the Central League’s Most Valuable Player, tallied 26 goals on 42 shots and dished out nine assists. LaSalle University commit received PSCA All-State recognition, was United Soccer Coaches All-Region and United Coaches All-American.

Nia Scott, Conestoga – Senior center forward tallied 18 goals and dished out 11 assists for Central League and PIAA District 1 4A champions. A fine all-around athlete who is committed to University of Louisville for lacrosse, Scott scored both goals in the Pioneers’ District 1 championship game win.

Emily Wertz, Conestoga – Senior outside midfielder and co-captain came back from ACL tears the previous two seasons to provide excellent all-around play for the District 1 4A champions. The Susquehanna University soccer commit tallied 12 goals and dished out six assists.

Anna Salvucci, Episcopal Academy – Senior midfielder, a first team All-Inter-Ac and All-Delco selection, scored 13 goals and dished out nine assists for the PAISAA state champions. University of Connecticut soccer commit has been selected to play in the 2018 High School All-American game.

Raina Kuzemka, Episcopal Academy – Junior midfielder, a first team All-Inter-Ac and All-Delco selection, was an excellent all-around performer, shouldering much of the team’s defensive responsibility while contributing offensively (six goals, seven assists) as well.

Olivia Dirks, Episcopal Academy – Senior midfielder/forward and captain, a first team All-Inter-Ac and All-Delco Player of the Year, was the Most Valuable Player of the PAISAA state champions. Selected to play in the 2018 High School All-American game, she will play lacrosse for Penn State University.

Phebe Gunther, Friends’ Central – Senior center mid and co-captain, a first team All-Friends’ Schools League selection for the third consecutive year, has anchored the Phoenix’s midfield for the past four years and was team co-MVP. Will play soccer for Dickinson next fall.

Reilly Short, Harriton – Senior center back and captain, a first team All-Central League pick, was the Rams’ Most Valuable Player and was considered a huge part of their back line. Noted for her strong tackling and soccer IQ, she will play for Wesleyan University next fall.

Annalena O’Reilly, Haverford High – Senior midfielder, a first team All-Central League and All-Delco pick, was the Fords’ Most Valuable Player, scoring 16 goals in 23 games. Noted for her versatility, she also played defense and forward, depending on the game and the team’s needs.

Aviva Kosto, Lower Merion – Junior forward, a first team All-Central League selection, was the Aces’ Most Valuable Player on offense, scoring 12 goals in 16 games. Noted for her ability to hold the ball, involve others in the attack and finish with both feet.

Teresa Hegarty, Merion Mercy Academy – Senior midfielder and captain, a first team All-AACA selection, scored 14 goals in 18 games, while anchoring the midfield by controlling the tempo of the Golden Bears’ attack.

Grace Gordon, Shipley – Senior goalie and captain, a four-time first team All-Friends’ Schools League selection, was the Gators’ MVP for the third consecutive year, and an all-state selection this fall. Recorded 138 saves and seven shutouts. Will play for Drexel University next fall.

Alivia Hamilton, Shipley – Junior forward/midfielder, a repeat first team All-Friends’ Schools League selection, was a prolific scorer for the FSL contenders, tallying 20 goals in 17 games and dishing out eight assists. Valued for her all-around skills and leadership.

Sarah Goldblum, Villa Maria Academy – Senior striker and co-captain, a first team All-AACA selection, scored 11 goals and dished out 10 assists for a Hurricanes’ squad that finished second at the PIAA District 1 3A tourney.

Hannah Young, Villa Maria Academy – Junior defender and co-captain, a first team All-AACA pick, led the Hurricanes to seven shutouts and a team 1.21 goals-against average. Was Defensive MVP for a Hurricanes’ squad that finished second at the PIAA District 1 3A tourney.

 

SECOND TEAM

Academy of Notre Dame – Maggie O’Brien, senior midfielder.

Baldwin School – Relly Ladner, senior midfielder; Celia Page, senior defender; Simi Bleznak, senior goalie.

Barrack Hebrew Academy – Yasi Stein, senior defender; Lexi Schachter, sophomore midfielder; Izzy Jacobson, sophomore midfielder/forward.

Conestoga – Calista Courtney, junior outside back; Sydney Sloan, senior outside back; Jordan Roe, senior center back.

Episcopal Academy – Laila Payton, junior center back; Lauren Cunningham, junior center back; Maddie Loughead, senior outside back.

Friends’ Central – Izzy MacFarlane, junior forward; Caroline Blackman, junior center back; Ryan Lynch, sophomore center mid.
