DLN ALL-AREA: Coach of the Year St. Clair made Rustin realize its full potential

Mike St. Clair, West Chester Rustin
St. Clair, in his third year as head coach of the Golden Knights, led West Chester Rustin (20-5) to the Ches-Mont League championship, just three years after the team had gone 2-16.
“This season was a testament to how hard the girls worked,” said St. Clair, who also coaches the perennially powerful Rustin football squad. “It meant so much to the school and to the community, how we turned the [girls’ lacrosse] program around.”
Prior to coming to Rustin, St. Clair served as an assistant coach for boys’ lacrosse and football at West Chester East from 1993 to 2006. He played football at Bloomsburg University, and football and baseball at Sun Valley High School.
There were a number of fine coaching performances this spring in Chester County, particularly in the post-season. Conestoga’s Amy Orcutt led her team to its first district title since 2006; Christa Somits coached Downingtown East to the PIAA 3A state semifinals; Laura Capuano at Bishop Shanahan led her team to the District 1 2A finals and PIAA 2A state semifinals; and Villa Maria’s Allie Mongan led the Hurricanes (18-4) to a third-place finish in the District 1 2A tourney.
