DLN GIRLS BASKETBALL: Kennett outlasts rive Unionville behind Hertz

Caroline Hertz had 15 points as Kennett outlasted crosstown rival Unionville, 39-36 in Ches-Mont League American Division girls basketball action Tuesday.
Andrea Prestianne added 10 points as the Blue Demons sit in third place in the American with a 4-2 mark heading into Thursday’s big game with Rustin. They are 8-6 overall.
Sophie Detweiler, Maddie Shanahan and Grace Schrof had 10 points each for the Indians (3-3, 7-5).

Downingtown East 54, Bishop Shanahan 50, OT  >> Bella Smuda had a triple-double as the Cougars (5-1, 9-3) squeezed out the overtime win and joined a three-way tie for first in the Ches-Mont National. The freshman had 17 points, 13 rebounds and 11 blocks. Erin Phelan had 13 points and Danielle Tyrell added 12.
Courtney Warley paced the Eagles with 23 points and Kelly Greenhut added 11.

West Chester Henderson 43, Avon Grove 26  >> Viki Kneis had 12 points and Grace Ferguson added nine as the Warriors (5-1) outscored the Red Devils (0-6, 1-12) 21-9 in the second quarter en route to a 28-12 halftime advantage in the Ches-Mont National victory. Ferguson grabbed 10 rebounds and Abby Shea had eight points and eight boards.
Allison Wallauer paced Avon Grove with nine points.
